Eliana stared at Beatrice, clutching the corner of the DNA test results. She gripped the paper tighter, marched right up to Beatrice, and shoved it toward her. “I finally have the truth.”
Beatrice met Eliana’s cold stare, dread rising in her chest. She forced herself to stay calm and asked, “You went looking for answers, Eliana? What do you mean?”
Eliana had spent so much time with Beatrice. She knew all too well just how selfish Beatrice truly was.
Now, all Eliana wanted was to find out who her father really was. Her father was her only shot at turning her life around.
Eliana handed Beatrice the final page of the DNA test, her gaze unwavering. “Take a look. This is the result.
“I always felt you were almost too good to me. Even most birth mothers wouldn’t treat their daughters this well. So my suspicions were right. You really are my birth mother.”
Beatrice recoiled, a gasp escaping her lips at Eliana’s words. She still wasn’t ready to acknowledge Eliana as her own daughter.
Eliana had never respected herself, ended up catching that illness, and now there was no way she’d ever score a rich husband.
Beatrice was selfish to the core, and the thought of coming clean to Eliana, admitting she was her own daughter, had never even crossed her mind.
Beatrice forced out a couple of awkward laughs. “Eliana, I really don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just being good to you because—”
“Save it with the noble–sounding reasons,” Eliana cut Beatrice off coldly. “You only treated me well because I’m your daughter. You wanted me to marry Dylan so you could have a daughter–in–law you could keep under your thumb.
“I’ve always known how selfish you are. For your own wealth and status, you abandoned me, took Dylan to the Ashford family to enjoy the high life, and in the end, you destroyed my entire life.”
By the time Eliana returned, she was completely composed. She didn’t yell or lose her temper. She just calmly laid out the truth, her eyes fixed on Beatrice with a depth that made Beatrice squirm.
Beatrice felt a chill run down her spine under Eliana’s gaze. ‘How did she find out?‘ she wondered.
Realizing she couldn’t hide it any longer, Beatrice burst out, her voice trembling with agitation. “Yes, you’re my daughter.
“Ever since you started high school, I made sure you got close to Dylan, helped you behind the scenes, and did everything to prepare you to marry into money. But why couldn’t you respect yourself?
“Why did you have to catch that illness? Now, how are you ever supposed to land a rich husband?”
Beatrice knew everything that happened the year Eliana took off with Tyler. She saw how Stella always looked sharp and took care of Dylan, so she and Pierre worked together to set things up for Eliana. But Eliana just kept letting her down.
Eliana sat quietly on the hospital bed, tears slipping down her cheeks as she gazed out into the night. “If it weren’t for you, I never would’ve ended up with this disease.
“If I hadn’t met Dylan, if the Ashford family hadn’t gone bankrupt. I wouldn’t have been forced to leave. All of this is on you. Your ambition and greed destroyed me”
Eliana added, “Do you even know how I got sick? I left Dylan behind and went overseas for school with Tyler, thinking he was actually decent.

“When he was sober, he treated me well enough. But once he started drinking, he’d beat me. The last time, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I ran out, and in some alley, two guys I knew stopped me.
“I’m so unlucky. They were drunk, too. That night, they raped me.”
After that, everything just spiraled. Eliana started chasing that kind of thrill, never realizing one of them was carrying the virus. That was how Eliana got infected.
