Eliana watched as Beatrice hesitated, the lingering attachment clear in her eyes. She raised her voice. “Mrs. Ashford, if he finds out the truth, we’re both dead.”
Beatrice bit her lip hard and nodded firmly. “Fine. He’s going to pick up the paternity test results today. He’s at Jacob’s place, and I’ve got people watching him.”
“The moment he steps out, I’ll let you know where he is,” Beatrice added.
Beatrice gave in. She wasn’t ready to die, and she definitely didn’t want to become the laughingstock of Kingsbridge.
Right now, the news about Beatrice’s divorce from Nolan hadn’t gotten out yet.
But everyone knew Beatrice had leveraged her connection with Dylan to climb the ranks back then. Beatrice was already a joke in Kingsbridge, so as long as she could keep up appearances, that was enough for her.
“And who exactly is that guy you’ve been seeing on the side? Can he really keep us safe?” Eliana pressed. She needed all the facts if she was going to plan their next move.
Beatrice’s expression darkened. “Eliana, you don’t need to worry about that. As your mother, I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.”
Honestly, Beatrice didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty about her own daughter. She’d always kept tabs on Eliana, having people sneak her snacks when she was little. Once Eliana hit high school, Beatrice started doting on her openly.
Eliana let out a cold laugh. “Fine, I won’t ask. But after abandoning me for all these years, you should make it up to me properly.”
Beatrice frowned. “I’ve been making it up to you since you started high school. Anything you wanted, I bought it for you. Eliana, I know I wasn’t the perfect mom, but do you have to talk to me like this?”
After Beatrice was a noble lady for so many years, everyone always treated her with respect. Beatrice couldn’t stand this kind of sarcasm.
Eliana narrowed her eyes. Right now, her mom was all she had left.
Eliana couldn’t risk making things too tense between them just yet. So Eliana‘ kept her mouth shut.
Eliana was already calculating just how much she could squeeze out of Dylan while he was still around.
Serena had stuff to deal with around noon, so she didn’t take Liam out. She waited for him to wake up, then headed out with Chris.
Serena got a call from Kendall, who said she was down to be the design director for Serena’s company, and she even had a few talented designers in mind.
Serena was over the moon. She’d been stressing about the whole designer situation lately, but now that she had a team lined up, the company could finally run smoothly again.
Serena trusted Kendall. She’d already done her homework on her, so she felt totally at ease letting Kendall take charge. Serena told her to get everything sorted and then meet her straight at the office.
With that problem solved, Serena was absolutely thrilled. She looked at Chris and said, “Hey Chris, let’s take the scenic route and head to the beach for some fresh seafood.
“Tonight I’ll make seafood stew for Liam. I’m in such a great mood. I want to cook up a whole seafood feast for dinner. Let’s have Yolanda, Caleb, and Lyra come over and join us.”

Chris grinned, “You got it, Ms. Hale.”
Chris drove off toward the beach.

On their way to the beach, they had to pass by the paternity testing center. Serena glanced out the window and spotted it, then asked, “Chris, did Caleb get all the samples?”
Chris replied, “Yeah, he got everything. Nolan went to Jacob’s place last night, and this morning he snuck in and swiped Jacob’s toothbrush.
