With Chris’s help, Serena quickly swam over to the sinking car. She gave the door a hard pull, but it was stuck tight.

It was a luxury ride, but thankfully, the windows weren’t bulletproof. Serena knew she had a way to get inside.

As an heiress, survival skills had been drilled into her since she was a kid.

Getting the glass out directly was tough, so she grabbed a pair of pliers and broke open the door next to it.

It took her several minutes to finally get the whole window out.

The icy river water had her shaking all over, and her stomach was starting to cramp up.

She knew her body couldn’t handle the cold. If she stayed in much longer, she’d be down with a fever for sure.

She clenched her jaw, refusing to give up. She had to save him, no matter what.

The car was slowly sinking deeper into the water.

Serena couldn’t make out who it was, and the guy was already out cold.

She cut through his seatbelt and, using the water’s buoyancy, dragged him out of the driver’s seat.

The water was crystal clear. When Chris saw her pull the guy out, he knew she’d done it. He yanked hard on the rope, and Serena gave it everything she had, dragging the man to the shore.

She was totally wiped out, hanging onto the rope for a long moment before she finally realized the man she’d saved was Nolan.

Serena froze for a second. She thought, It is Nolan.

Why him?

That was when it hit her. This was no accident. Someone was trying to kill Nolan.

She wondered, Who would want to kill Nolan?

Serena didn’t have time to think about it. The water was freezing.

Chris, pull him up first,” she called out, slipping the rope off herself and tying it around Nolan.

It wasn’t a high bank, so Chris gave a little tug and pulled Nolan up. Luckily, the grass kept him from getting scraped up

Chris didn’t even look at Nolan. He quickly untied the rope and tossed it back to Serena.

Chris’s eyes were red with worry as he shouted, Ms. Hale, hurry up and get out of there!

Serena’s hands were shaking uncontrollably. She was freezing.

With trembling fingers, she tied the rope around herself.

She slipped twice, choking on river water each time, before finally grabbing onto the grass at the bank. Then, Chris carefully pulled her up.

Serena almost collapsed as she halfknelt beside Nolan, checking his pulse.

After checking, she breathed a sigh of relief. He is fine, just got knocked out. Call Dylan and tell him what happened. We

need to get him to the hospital right now.

Chris, eyes still red, helped Serena lift Nolan into the car.

Serena was shivering all over. She pulled out two pills from her bag, made Nolan take one, and popped the other herself.

As the ambulance sirens got closer, Serena’s eyes burned with fury and a thirst for vengeance. Who the hell is trying to kill Nolan?she thought.

Serena thought for a moment. Then, she ordered, Chris, don’t call Dylan yet. Let’s get to the hospital first.

Call Caleb and tell him to erase all the security footage nearby. Don’t let anyone know Nolan made it out alive for now. He drove out of the city. He must’ve realized someone was following him.

Once Serena was out of the water, her head felt clearer, but she still felt awful and leaned against something for support.

Chris answered softly, Alright.”
