Serena hugged Liam tightly, her heart aching for him as she gently patted his back. She knew exactly what he was afraid of.
What really scared him was being left behind again.
Liam never felt safe, and Serena knew deep down it was her fault. She wanted to make him a seafood feast yesterday, but something unexpected happened on the way.
Serena whispered softly, “Liam, it’s Mommy’s fault. I would never leave you, sweetheart. Mommy was sick last night, that’s why I didn’t come home. But no matter where I am, I’ll always be with you. You’re Mommy’s precious little boy
Serena had never really spent time raising a child before, but motherhood came naturally to her. She could pick up on Liam’s feelings and always knew how to make him feel better.
As Liam listened to Serena’s gentle comfort, a smile finally broke out on his face. His hair was just like Dylan’s, which was thick, shiny, and much longer now, soft as ever, making his big eyes seem to shine even more.
“Mommy, are you feeling better?” Liam asked, still worried about her.
Serena really did feel much better. The weakness from yesterday was gone.
“Liam, I’m okay now. We’ll be able to go home soon. When we get home, I’ll cook you something tasty,” Serena said.
She took Liam’s little hand. He was so skinny, his hand so tiny. Serena was determined to fatten him up and make him a chubby, healthy boy.
Liam giggled happily, snuggling into Serena’s arms for a hug.
Serena held him close, his small body curled up against her. The way he clung to her made her heart turn to mush.
Chris’s voice came from outside the door. “Dylan, you can’t go in.” Chris’s voice echoed from the hallway.
As soon as Serena heard Dylan’s name, a cold glint flashed in her usually calm eyes.
What is he doing here?‘ Serena thought, her heart tightening.
Liam whispered, “Mommy, Daddy showed up last night. He wasn’t feeling well, so he came to the hospital to see a doctor.
“He bumped into me in the lobby and found out you were admitted. He waited outside all night for you, b
let him come in.”
Serena paused in surprise, her gaze softening as she looked down at him. “Liam, you were here last night?”
Chris wouldn’t
Liam grinned and pointed to the spot beside her. “Yep, Mommy! I curled up right next to you and slept. Lyra was sleeping over there, too
Serena’s heart melted. “Sweetie, you don’t have to do that anymore. Once Mommy gets better, we’ll go home together
“The hospital isn’t safe for you, so promise me you’ll rest at home from now on, okay? No matter where I go, I’ll always come back to you.”
Serena gently tousled his hair, still a bit stunned that Dylan had actually waited outside all night for her
“Chris, move aside. I just want to see her for a second, then I’ll leave,” Dylan said, and his voice was low and icy with anger from outside.
Serena frowned slightly. She couldn’t let him keep making a scene at the door.

Chapter 165
“Chris, just let him in,” Serena said.
Dylan was stubborn. If she didn’t let him in, he’d probably camp out there all day.
Chris, standing at the door, shot Dylan a fierce glare.
