Kendall’s eyes were icy, but her tone stayed calm. “Naomi, this is the general manager of my company. She’s also skilled in medicine. I asked Ms. Hale to come and check on Cassie.”
Naomi’s face fell instantly. She eyed Serena up and down, thinking, ‘So young and gorgeous… She must come from money. And look at that skin, barely a wrinkle, flawless.
Plus, she’s a company manager. Now that’s the kind of woman who’s actually worthy of my son.
Naomi sneered, “She’s so young. What could she possibly know about medicine? Stop throwing your money away.
The doctors already said that the girl is a lost cause. Every year, you dump tens of thousands into her. It’s a never–ending money pit. If you keep this up, how are you ever going to have a second child?
‘Kendall, let me make this clear,” Naomi snapped. “If you let the Brett family line end, you’ll be the one who disgraced our Family.”
Kendall snapped, her voice shaking with frustration, “Naomi, Cassie is your granddaughter, too! How can you say something ike that? I’m not having another child until Cassie is cured.”
Serena stared at her in disbelief. She thought, ‘With a mother–in–law like that, she still wants a second kid?‘
Naomi was so furious that tears threatened to spill from her eyes. ‘Anything else can be lost, but the Brett family legacy must never be broken!‘
‘Kendall, if you refuse to have another child, then get out of my house!” Naomi snapped. “The Brett family doesn’t need you. There are plenty of women lining up to give my son an heir. Without you, he can find someone way better.”
Kendall was at her breaking point. Her voice cracked with exhaustion and anger as she yelled, “Enough! I’ve done more than enough for the Brett family all these years. This house is mine. If anyone is packing up and leaving, it’s you, not me.”
“So you think having a house makes you all that?” Naomi sneered. “Divorce if you want. My son gets the house, you get the kid. But if you want to keep the house, you’ll have to hand your daughter over to him.”
Naomi knew she had Kendall right where she wanted her, and there’s no way Kendall would ever give up her daughter.
Those words made Kendall’s blood boil instantly.
Sure, she’d always known Naomi looked down on her, but she never imagined her mother–in–law would stoop this low.
Her eyes rimmed red with anger, and Kendall glared at Naomi. “Don’t worry, Naomi. You’re not getting the house, and you’re not getting my daughter either.
“This place is mine from before the marriage. You and your son have no claim on it. Not now, not even
If it really came down to it, she’d walk away from this marriage without a second thought.
Kendall thought, “That bastard Kayden. I told him to stay home and look after Cassie, and now he’s nowhere to be found
“Hmph! She is just your foster mother. Don’t act like she is your real mom,” Naomi sneered. “Let’s be real. This house could go to either of us.
“If you won’t give my son another child, I’ll make sure he divorces you. If you want to keep your daughter, you’ll have to sign the house over to him. That’s your only option.”

With that, Naomi stormed off into her room.
Kendall hugged Cassie tightly, tears silently streaming down her face.

Serena walked over, saw Kendall crying, and gently comforted her, “Mrs. Brett, let’s take care of Cassie first, alright?”
Serena was trying to shift her focus, hoping to help Kendall calm down.
Kendall nodded. “Okay.”
She wiped away her tears and sat down on the couch, still holding Cassie close.
As Kendall sat down, she spotted rubbish all over the floor and felt her blood boil. She thought, ‘Naomi is so stuck–up and lazy that she never lifts a finger to clean.
