Kendall was out hustling every day just to keep the family afloat, leaving her daughter in the hands of her husband and her mother–in–law, Naomi.

Nearly every penny she made went toward covering Naomi’s expenses and paying for her daughter’s treatments. She was so frugal that she wouldn’t even spend on herself. She’d even sew her own clothes from scratch with whatever cheap fabric she could find.

Kendall thought, ‘I bust my tail every day just to keep us afloat, and is this what’s been happening to my daughter whenever I’m not around?

‘No wonder Cassie’s eyes were always red and swollen when I got home, giving me that hurt, pleading look. I always thought it was just the pain making her cry!

If Kendall hadn’t come home early today, she never would’ve known what her daughter was really going through.

In the living room, Cassie was crying on the floor, while Naomi sat off to the side, scrolling through her phone, watching videos, and eating chips.

She didn’t care at all about the crying child on the floor.

When Cassie heard the door open and saw Kendall come in, all the hurt she’d been holding back just burst out. Her tears fell even harder, streaming down her cheeks.

“Mommy, you’re back. Mommy… I… It hurts so much,” Cassie whimpered.

Kendall’s heart broke as she rushed over and scooped Cassie up into her arms.

When Naomi saw Kendall come in, she shot her a sharp glare. “Didn’t you say you’d only be gone for two hours? It’s been almost four!

“Do you have any idea how exhausting it is looking after your kid all day? You leave everything to me. Taking care of her, cooking, and how can you live with yourself?”

Kendall’s eyes filled with tears, feeling completely wronged. “Mom, if I don’t go out and earn money, how else are we supposed to keep this family going and get Cassie the care she needs?”

Naomi snorted, “She’s your own burden, so you should be the one raising her. I’m only helping out because I’m being

generous.

“You ought to thank me. If anyone is in the wrong here, it’s you. You won’t even give me a second child, a healthy one. Are you trying to end the Brett family name?

“Since you happened to catch me today, let me spell it out for you Don’t expect me to spend a single dime on her treatment. You pay for it yourself.

“And next year, you’d better give me a grandson. If you can’t, then pack your bags and get out of this house.

Serena stared at Naomi in disbelief. Beatrice was vicious, but at least she kept it under wraps when others were around, only letting her true colors show when they were alone.

But Naomi didn’t even bother to pretend. She just said whatever cruel thing came to mind, no filter at all.
