Once she’d settled the bill, Serena headed home with Liam. Her top priority now was being there for her son.
Chris was driving, while Gray was trailing behind in another car.
All the way, Liam was chattering away about the stories in the books he’d read.
Serena and Chris listened quietly, letting him have the spotlight.
Chris couldn’t help but say, “Liam, you’re something else! Can you really remember everything from all those books?”
Liam nodded with a big grin, then shook his head. “Chris, if I really like a story, I remember it super fast. But if it’s not my thing, I just remember bits and pieces.”
“Wow, Liam, you’re already incredible. Back when I was your age, I couldn’t even string a sentence together, let alone remember stuff from books,” Chris said.
Liam looked a little sad. He said, “It’s because I wanted to find my mom as soon as possible.
“I studied hard every day, trying to learn how to find clues so I could help the cops catch the bad guys. Then they’d be able to take me back to my mom.”
That was the only thing he ever thought about, and in the end, his wish came true.
He really did make it back to his mom.
Serena hugged him tight, her eyes glinting with a cold edge. Her hatred for Eliana only burned hotter with every passing moment. “Sweetheart, now that I’m here, you don’t have to worry about a thing,” she whispered.
“Okay!” Liam nodded happily, flashing his bright white teeth in a cute smile.
Just like Lady Lark, he’d clawed his way out of hell and found his way back to his mom. Happiness was finally his.
Liam suddenly asked, “Mom, have you ever heard the story of Lady Lark?”
Serena paused, surprised. The fairy tale of Lady Lark reminded her so much of what Liam had
gone through.
She hugged him tight, her heart aching, and whispered, “Sweetheart, you’ll be even happier than Lady Lark”
Liam laughed, “Mom, I’m already happier than Lady Lark
Liam thought, ‘All the bad times were finally behind us. With mom by my side, happiness is at last
Serena held him close, just enjoying the moment.
They were on a four–lane road with hardly any traffic, so Chris stepped on the gas.
But just then, someone ramuned their car, hard.
Chris was on high alert. The moment their car got bit, he didn’t panic. He kept his cool and gripped the wheel tight
Chris’s eyes narrowed with focus. The instant he saw they were about to slam into a pole, he slanuned on the brakes and jerked the wheel to the side. The tires shrieked against the asphalt as the car screeched to a stop

Gray saw the whole thing from behind, his eyes blazing with killer intent. He slammed his foot down and smashed his car right into the other vehicle, sending it flying.
The driver who was trying to get away was stunned. He never saw that coming and definitely didn’t expect to be crashed into himself.
Gray’s hit was so hard that the other car spun wildly in place.
The thick, acrid stench of burning rubber hung heavy in the air.
Serena glanced out the window and saw Gray already getting out of his car. She asked Liam softly, “Sweetheart, are you hurt?”
