Chapter 199
Nova’s cold gaze locked onto him. “You can leave now.”
Dylan froze. “What?”
Nova stared at him, her voice icy. “I said you can leave.”
She turned and walked away.

They didn’t dig up anything on me after twenty–four hours, so she’s letting me go,‘ Dylan thought, watching Nova walk away, lost in his own thoughts.
Dylan stood up and hurried after her. “Ms. Mitchell, wait!” he called out.
Nova stopped and turned to face him, her gaze icy and silent, waiting for him to speak.
Dylan asked anxiously, “Did you find out who did it?”
Nova let out a cold laugh. “So, you’re happy we didn’t catch you, huh? Your whole family’s really careful, but don’t get too comfortable. I’ll get the proof one day.
‘Eliana, Beatrice, and you are three pieces of trash. Sooner or later, I’ll see all of you locked up.”
You know why Ms. Hale didn’t let me arrest you? It’s because she thinks you and Eliana are ride or die, that you’ll protect her no matter what, forgive her no matter how bad it gets. Ms. Hale was right about you.
‘Eliana’s done all kinds of illegal stuff, and you just turned a blind eye.”
Ms. Serena Hale said she wants to see how you two end up together in the end,” Nova added. “Oh, and she asked me to pass on a message to you.”
Dylan had a bad feeling about this, but he still asked, “What message?”
Nova sneered, “Eliana’s the one you’re always hung up on. Let’s see if you can actually keep her safe for the rest of your life.”
She gazed into the distance, her smile dripping with irony. “Some people would risk everything for you, and all you give them in return is heartbreak. Others do everything they can just to get rid of you. Whatever, I’m done talking. Go.”
With that, Nova turned and walked away.
Dylan paused, baffled. What’s that supposed to mean?‘ he wondered. ‘Someone went all out just to save me
Dylan stared out at the sunshine streaming in, but his own eyes were void of any light.
Dylan frowned, watching Nova’s retreating figure. Suddenly realizing something, he rushed after her, only to spot her at the corner, speaking quietly into her phone.
Nova’s voice was respectful. Ms. Hale, we’ve checked everything here, and there’s nothing tying Dylan to this
“The contact used a burner phone, the deal was all cash, and there’s no surveillance on the route Dylan’s way too cautions to leave any evidence behind.
Nova added, “I interrogated that guy for two hours. He wasn’t lying. But without hard evidence, his testinsony alone lant enough to pin anything on Dylan.

Serena said, “Nova, maybe it wasn’t him at all. Someone else could be using him as a cover to go after me, like Eliana, Jasper, or Beatrice. Any of them could be behind this.”
Nova narrowed her eyes, suddenly remembering something. She’d been so furious earlier that she’d lost all sense of reason.
“Ms. Hale, I just remembered something,” Nova said. “You asked me to look into Eliana and Jasper’s phone records, but I haven’t gotten them yet.
“Yesterday at the mall where you showed up, Eliana was there, too. She met with Dylan. They both knew where you were, SO I’m guessing they were in on it together.”
Dylan was speechless.
‘Seriously, if she doesn’t know what she’s saying, she should just shut the hell up,‘ he thought.
‘Eliana and I, scheming together? Give me a break, Dylan thought, rolling his eyes inwardly.
Serena replied, “I had someone rough up Yvonne yesterday, so Dylan might be out for revenge. Whatever, since we don’t have any proof, just let him go for now.”
“Got it,” Nova said.
Nova hung up and turned to leave, but caught sight of Dylan standing right behind her. She shot him an angry look and demanded, “Were you listening in on my call?”
