Zoe stood there, frozen in shock.

‘My real daughter was swapped at birth by Beatrice, Zoe thought, her mind spinning. Now that the has accepted Eltana as her daughter, where is my real daughter?

‘No wonder Beatrice has always bent over backwards to treat Eliana so well all these years. I always thought she truly loved Eliana, wanted her to marry into her family.

I used to secretly feel grateful. Even if my own marriage was a mistake, at least my daughter found happiness.

Zoe got to her feet like a ghost, her whole body numb with shock, and drifted away in a daze.

She walked up and rang the doorbell. The new security guard hadn’t even finished his training, but somehow he already knew who lived there.

When Zoe said she was Eliana’s mom, the guard just waved her in.

Eliana was wracked with guilt. She glared at Beatrice, her voice shaking with anger. “Mom, I told you from the start. She’s my daughter, my own flesh and blood.

“You promised you’d keep her safe. Even when you said we had to trade her for Stella’s kid, I still went along with it. I listened to you, but how could you let my daughter get hurt?

Beatrice was pissed, too. She glared at Eliana. “If you’d just come clean back then, told me you were sick, told me the baby got infected, do you really think any of this mess would’ve happened?”

‘She should’ve never kept it from me, Beatrice fumed.

Eliana could only laugh bitterly, thinking back on everything; now, all she felt was regret.

“Why didn’t I just wait a little longer back then?” she wondered, regret gnawing at her.

Her expression was pained. “Back then, I had no idea you were my real mom. I just wanted you to like me, wanted to fit in with your family, so I ended up hiding things from you.

“But I never expected that, even knowing all the messed–up things I did to Dylan, you kept forgiving me. That’s why I just kept pushing my luck.”

Before Beatrice could say anything, a shocked voice rang out from the doorway.
