Beatrice and Eliana were both startled. They hadn’t expected anyone to come in.

Eliana recognized the voice as her adoptive mother, Zoe.

Then she heard Zoe cry out in pain. “Ouch! Why is this damn floor so slippery? My back!”

‘Did she just slip?‘ Eliana wondered.

“Mom, why are you here?” Eliana stood up and went over to help her.

Zoe pretended to be in pain, rubbing her back. “Oh, you’ve been gone for so long and haven’t come home. I was worried about you, so I came to see you.

“I also wanted to ask Mrs. Ashford if she could help get Jasper out of jail. Your dad’s been getting drunk and making a scene every night, all because your brother’s locked up.”

As she spoke, Zoe wiped away her tears.

“We’ve already paid out billions because of you. What else could you possibly want? And you still have the audacity to show up here and cause trouble?” Beatrice said coldly.

If it weren’t for the Lambert family, Beatrice and Eliana would never have been forced into this situation.
