Chapter 226
A few minutes later, Serena released Miles’s hand and checked him over again. His ribs were injured, but nothing serious.
She looked at Chris and said, “He’s fine. He was knocked out and has a mild concussion. Get him to the hospital for an IV drip, and he’ll be fine once he wakes up.”
Dylan let out a quiet sigh of relief. ‘Good thing Miles is okay.
Serena asked Chris to grab some meds. Chris came back quickly with a bottle of pills, and Serena carefully explained how to give Miles the pills.
The pills dissolved almost immediately, so there was no risk of Miles choking while he was unconscious.
The cops showed up too. After Serena and Dylan gave their statements, the suspects were taken away by the police.
Dylan helped Miles to his feet and guided him into Serena’s car. The three of them headed to the hospital together.
On the way, Dylan couldn’t take his eyes off Serena, but she’d rather stare out the window than say a single word to him. Dylan felt totally powerless.
Chris was driving with total focus, not saying a word.
Suddenly, Serena’s phone rang. She was bleeding so much her face was ghostly pale, and her head was spinning. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay alert, but she could barely make out the caller ID.
Still, she knew it was Liam calling.
“Hey, baby,” she said with a smile.
Liam sounded disappointed. “Mommy, why aren’t you home yet? I’m sleepy. I want to wait for you before I go to sleep.”
Serena smiled and comforted him softly, “Sweetheart, why don’t you go to sleep first? Mommy will be home in about an hour.”
“That long? Okay, I’ll go to sleep by myself. Mommy, stay safe, okay? I’ll be good,” Liam said.
Liam was so thoughtful. He knew his mom was always busy, and Bennett had told him she had to work so they could have what they needed.
He was a good boy and didn’t cling to his mom, but at night, he still missed her so much. There was nothing better than falling asleep in her arms, warm and cozy, with her sweet scent all around him.
“Okay, baby. Let your favorite teddy bear keep you company while you sleep. Mommy will be back soon to cuddle with you,” Serena said softly.
Serena kept reassuring Liam for a while before finally hanging up.
Dylan stared at Serena, mesmerized. She was smiling, and it was a smile full of happiness.
It was a smile he rarely saw–radiant as the stars, her eyes filled with pure joy.
Serena looked so beautiful in that moment that he couldn’t tear his eyes away.
He’d never seen Serena this happy before.

She really loved their son.
Dylan was totally mesmerized, his gaze locked on Serena. Even with Miles right there between them, nothing could break his focus, as his eyes never left her.
After Serena ended the call, darkness began creeping in around her vision.
She’d really overestimated how strong she was.
She thought she was almost back to normal, but even a small injury was enough to almost take her out.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself by staring at the car door, but her head was spinning and her whole body felt terrible.
She glanced up and, almost without meaning to, met Dylan’s worried eyes. As her vision blurred, she blinked, and suddenly, he wasn’t that wild, rebellious guy she remembered from their first meeting anymore.
Just before Serena lost consciousness, she heard Dylan’s anxious voice.
“Stella, hang in there,” he said.
Serena wondered how far a person’s heart could be pushed before it finally broke.
Jasper was actually lingering not far from the accident scene, and he saw everything unfold clearly.
This time, he finally got it–Stella was his nemesis. Every single time, she wrecked his plans.
His eyes flashed with venom. He’d already taken Nolan out, but it still didn’t his
go way.
If Stella had not interfered tonight, he would have succeeded without a hitch.
And that idiot Eliana had actually managed to escape.
He’d set up a backup plan. If he could take Dylan out, it would be over once and for all. If not, he’d make sure Eliana got seriously hurt, so Dylan would never be able to forgive himself when it came to the Lambert family.
But all of it was wrecked by Stella alone.
