Dylan mulled over Serena’s words, his deep eyes clouded with uncertainty. He thought maybe Serena hadn’t adjusted their divorce yet, and that was why she’d say such things. There was no way he was living in a lie.
Still, watching Serena walk away side by side with Spencer, Dylan couldn’t shake how wrong it looked, how it needled him.
Meanwhile, Eliana stared after Serena’s retreating figure, a sharp, dangerous glint flashing in her eyes. Serena had become a serious threat to her position and to her secrets.
As for Beatrice, she was now on guard. She had to do something. If Serena started suspecting what happened back then, she would definitely dig into it.
Beatrice looked at Dylan and said in a gentle tone, “Dylan, Stella can’t accept that she will never be able to live a wealthy life again. That’s why she’s trying to smear Eliana’s name. Don’t forget
that your life was saved by Eliana.”
Hearing this, Eliana frowned inwardly. ‘Why does this fool have to keep bringing it up?‘
Eliana knew that the more Beatrice emphasized it, the more it seemed like she was guilt–tripping Dylan, which would only push him further away.
Dylan was a proud man. Some things he would remember for a lifetime, like the debt of being saved. He didn’t need someone constantly reminding him. If anything, bringing it up over and over would only make him question their motives.
Sure enough, Dylan’s expression cooled noticeably.
Eliana’s heart dropped. Quickly, she spoke up in her gentlest tone, “Mrs. Ashford, please don’t keep saying things like that. I saved Dylan willingly. I never expected anything in return.
“I love him because he treats me well. He loves me, not because I saved him. If I had to be with him out of obligation, even you wouldn’t bless a relationship like that, would you?”
Dylan felt a warmth in his chest at her words. He thought Eliana was right about one thing. Saving him was part of it, but his feelings for Eliana ran deeper, rooted in those letters that had pulled him back from the edge.
Thinking of this, Dylan’s voice softened further. “Mom, Eliana, let’s go home.”
Eliana smiled tenderly. Looking at Dylan’s eyes full of apparent trust, a faint trace of mockery flickered in her mind, ‘Stella, all those things you did back then really saved me a lot of trouble.’
Once they returned home, Dylan gently laid Liam down on the soft bed. His gaze softened as he turned to Eliana, who had followed him in. “Eliana, rest early tonight. I’ll take care of Liam.”
The name Liam was one Dylan himself had chosen after the child was brought home.
Eliana didn’t want to leave. She longed to stay close to Dylan. His affection had become something she craved.
Yet Dylan had always held back from true intimacy, and lately, Eliana’s patience was wearing thin. She missed the feeling of
a strong, passionate embrace, and her body ached with a restless emptiness she could no longer ignore.
“Dylan,” Eliana whispered, her voice soft and pleading against his ear. “I’ve been back for so long. I want to be with you.”
Her words sent a shiver through Dylan, and he instinctively pulled her closer, his arms wrapping around her slender form. Sensing his response, Eliana’s heart leapt. Slowly, she untied the sash of her robe, letting it slip away.
Their skin met, warm and bare. Eliana looked up at Dylan, her eyes glossy and full of wanting.
