When Serena got home, she headed upstairs to spend time with Liam. In the grand, luxurious hall, watching her son’s tiny figure, she realized the place didn’t feel empty anymore.
After a full day of rest at the hospital, she was in good spirits.
Liam was thrilled to see Serena back and was eager to tell her everything he’d learned since she’d been gone.
“Mom, I really like Merlin–the legendary strategist. Bennett says he was a genius. There’s even a children’s version of his story, and Bennett already ordered it for me online,” Liam said excitedly.
His big eyes sparkled with joy, scrunching up as he grinned from ear to ear.
Serena smiled, pulled him into her arms, and hugged him tight.
‘Sweetie, you’re so smart, but you shouldn’t read for too long at a time. Remember to take breaks, okay? With Mom here, you can just be yourself and do whatever makes you happy,” she said softly.
Liam nodded happily. “Mom, that’s exactly what I’m doing! Reading is my favorite thing, but I love it even more when you’re here with me.”
After being apart from Serena for a whole day and night, Liam stuck to her like glue, not wanting to let her out of his sight for even a second.
‘Ms. Hale, it’s time for your medicine,” Bennett said, bringing the medicine over in his crisp suit, a warm smile on his face.
Thank you, Bennett,” Serena said, taking the medicine and swallowing it all at once. It tasted bitter, but it warmed her heart.
Bennett smiled and handed her a piece of candy. “Ms. Hale, this is your favorite. Have one–it’ll help take away the bitter
aste.”
Serena grinned, her face lighting up as she looked at the gentle old man. “Bennett, you always remember what I like.”
‘Ms. Hale, I’ve watched you grow up. I remember all your little quirks, and even when you were out in the world, I was always quietly watching over you,” Bennett said warmly.
‘Now that you’ve finally figured things out, promise me you’ll take good care of yourself from now on,” he added.
Bennett and Edwin were getting on in years, and neither of them knew how much longer they’d be around for her.
Seeing her get hurt made his heart ache.
He doted on Serena as if she were his own granddaughter. She was so kind, always respectful and caring toward them
Thinking about her background and everything she’d been through, Bennett’s heart ached even more for her.
He wished things would go more smoothly for her from now on.
Serena had a rough childhood, and even after she grew up and fell for Dylan, her life was still full of hardship.
Serena smiled and popped the candy into her mouth.
Bennett didn’t want to disturb their time together, so he quietly took the bowl and went downstairs
Liam looked up at Serena, worry written all over his face. “Mom, you didn’t come home last night. Were you feeling sick?

“Mom, you have to take care of yourself. I’m growing up really fast, and I can look after you now too. Please don’t stay out like you did last night.”
Serena suddenly hugged Liam tight, feeling just how uneasy he was.
She fought to keep her emotions in check, not letting the tears fall, but her eyes were already wet.
Her little boy’s anxiety shattered her heart.
“Sweetie, no matter how late it is, I’ll always come home to you,” Serena said, looking down at her son with a bright, reassuring smile.
Liam nodded, smiling. “Yeah! I just get really anxious when you’re not home.”
He finally let out what he’d been holding inside.
Last night, when Serena didn’t come home, he couldn’t sleep at all. He stayed awake the whole time, just waiting for her to walk through the door.
He wasn’t afraid his mom would leave him. He was just scared she might be in danger.
He could feel just how much Serena loved him.
Serena pulled him onto her lap, pinched his little cheeks, and turned to look at his adorable face. “Sweetie, I’m not going to work today. I’m staying home to be with you.”
Liam giggled, nuzzled into his mom’s arms, wriggled happily, and then asked, “Mom, can I have big shrimp for dinner tonight?”
Serena gave him a doting smile. “Of course, sweetie. Anything you want.”
Just then, Lyra came upstairs and said, “Hey, Serena, I’ve collected all the evidence we need on Mrs. Brett.”
