Liam lowered his head slightly. Dylan was his father, but Eliana was not his mother. He needed to find a way back to his real mother.
“Where’s my phone?” Liam asked. Yesterday, he saw a short video explaining that if he gave evidence of abuse to the police, his real mother could gain custody.
Dylan frowned at him. “Liam, you’re still too young. You can’t be on the phone all the time.”
Liam felt wronged. “You’re a big meanie. Mom lets me use the phone every day. Why can’t I?”
Dylan’s frown deepened, troubled by the idea that Eliana allowed Liam to use the phone daily.
Just as he was thinking this, his own phone rang. He glanced at the screen. It was Chris, who had been unreachable for a while.
Chris said coldly, “Mr. Ashford, we need to meet. Let’s discuss the accident from before.”
Dylan had no interest in negotiating. “I’ve made myself clear. I will only speak with Stella about this.”
Nearby, Liam immediately perked up at the sound of Stella’s name.
Chris replied with a sharp laugh. “Sorry, Mr. Ashford, but she doesn’t have time for you. If you refuse to meet, we will press direct murder charges against Pierre.”
Dylan explained, “Murder? Chris, this is all a misunderstanding. Pierre acted against Stella because he was misled. I’ll cover all costs, but Stella herself must be the one to resolve this. Besides, you have no solid evidence for murder, do you? He may have had motive, but we can settle this privately-”
Before Dylan could finish, Chris flatly ended the call, leaving no room for further discussion.
Dylan frowned at the disconnected phone. It was clear that Serena had no intention of seeing him again.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door. “Come in,” Dylan answered, impatience tingeing his voice.
Eliana pushed the door open, wearing a gentle, practiced smile. She was wearing an elegant white dress that accentuated her figure perfectly.
“Dylan, Liam, now that you’re up, please come down for breakfast. It’s all ready,” she said, her tone sweet and considerate.
But Dylan felt an inexplicable wave of irritation at the sight of her. “Alright,” he replied flatly. “You go first. Liam and I will wash up and be right down.”
Eliana glanced at Liam, who was ignoring her, and a sharp glint flashed in her eyes. Yesterday, she had disciplined him while in a bad mood, and today he was giving her the cold shoulder.
‘Stubborn little brat,‘ she thought coldly, ‘This dress is expensive. I can’t let him ruin it.’

Then, Eliana switched back to her gentle facade. “Alright, but don’t take too long. Let’s have breakfast together.” She rose onto her toes and kissed Dylan’s cheek before leaving.
Dylan stood there stiffly, a confusing mix of emotions swirling inside him. He felt an instinctive recoil from Eliana’s closeness.
