Serena stayed silent, waiting for Zoe to tell her the results.

Zoe wiped away her tears and continued, “Kendall is my real daughter. Choosing Beatrice was the right move. The hospital where I gave birth was just a small place, with poor surveillance and no one by my side.

“That night, I was completely out of it. I knew I wouldn’t get any answers by looking there.

“That’s why I started with Beatrice. When I got the test results just now, I felt so lucky.”

Zoe added, “I never imagined I’d find my real daughter so quickly. But I can’t admit she’s my daughter. She has a brother who’s a murderer, and a father who’s a murderer.

“As a mother, I’ve failed. I couldn’t raise my children right. I’m not a weak person, but no matter how hard I tried, my kids just turned out bad. Ms. Hale, I really don’t know what to do.”

Zoe kept wiping away her tears as she spoke.

Serena hadn’t expected things to actually turn out like this.

After calming herself a little, Zoe went on, “Beatrice abandoned my daughter at an orphanage. Later, she was adopted, grew up, got married, but still couldn’t break free from Beatrice’s clutches.

“She even had to help raise Beatrice’s own daughter’s child. Why is my daughter’s life so miserable?”

The more Zoe dwelled on it, the more her heart ached.

After the food arrived and they finished eating, Serena finally spoke up. “Mrs. Lambert, you should really tell Mrs. Brett about this. You’ve been apart for so many years, and she’s been longing to meet her real mother.”

Zoe understood what Serena meant; she was determined to reunite with her daughter, just not right now.

“Ms. Hale, I understand what you’re saying. I will reunite with Kendall, but not yet. Give me a little more time. I need to collect all the evidence about Jasper, and then I’m going to get a divorce,” Zoe said.

Zoe’s face was set with determination. She was absolutely going to get that divorce.

Serena got what Zoe was thinking. After lunch, the two of them left together, but ran into Jasper downstairs.

Jasper had noticed his wife was hardly ever home lately, so he started wondering what she was up to.

He even had someone tail her, and they told him she’d gone to the hospital and then to a restaurant.

Now, seeing her walk out of the restaurant with Serena, Jasper went over, surprised, and asked, “Honey, how come you’re with Stella?”
