Kendall saw the little girl and instantly knew she was her daughter. The girl looked just like her.

Shelly, my daughter,Kendall said, her voice full of excitement as she crouched down and hugged her tightly.

Shelly had grown up in an orphanage, and she was shy and insecure. She was small and skinny, her skin tanned from the sun, and her hair looked faded.

One could tell she hadn’t had enough to eat. Her eyes were bright, but she kept her gaze down, afraid to meet anyone’s eyes.

The bright colors of her Tshirt only made her little face look even more tanned by contrast.

The police officer glanced at everyone, then turned to Serena and said, Since you don’t have a DNA test, we can’t confirm the child is yours.

Please come with me to the station to give a statement and do a DNA test. If it proves the child belongs to this lady, you can take her home.”

Kendall held her daughter close. The little girl looked at Kendall in a daze, crying silently, unable to say a word.

For her, calling someone Momfelt like a luxury she could never afford.

Other kids found families, but she waited all alone, hoping her mom would come for her.

But her mom never came, and now she was afraid this woman standing before her was just another false hope.

Shelly, don’t be scared. Mom’s here,Kendall said gently, looking at her daughter’s skinny little frame. Cassie was pale and thin from being sick, but even she wasn’t as skinny as Shelly.

Shelly pressed her lips together, tears welled up in her eyes, and slid down her cheeks as she just kept her head down and didn’t say a word.

Serena could instantly see that Shelly was a kid who was always on edge, never really feeling safe.

Serena remembered when she first brought Liam home. He was just as lost and anxious back then.

Serena gave a small nod to the officer. Alright, she said softly.

Serena stuck with Kendall the whole time as they headed to the police station. They spent the entire day taking care of all the paperwork, and at last, Kendall was able to bring Shelly home with her.

Kendall spent the whole day quietly by Shelly’s side, never saying a word.

It wasn’t until the police officer gently said to Shelly, Hey, kiddo, congratulations, you finally found your mom. This is your real mom. Go ahead, call her Momand head home together.

The moment the officer said that, Shelly’s tears spilled over. She finally looked up at Kendall, her voice trembling as she asked, Are you really my mom? Will you really take me home? You won’t ever leave me again, right?

Kids who grew up without a mom were always mature beyond their years, picking up on every little mood around them. Even just a glance from someone could make her nervous.

An entire day had gone by before Shelly finally found the courage to speak.

It was only now that Kendall realized just how anxious and uneasy her daughter had been, bottling everything up

staying silent.

Shelly kept quiet and didn’t ask anything, all because she was terrified that if Kendall wasn’t really her mom, the disappointment would be too much to bear.

For a child so young to understand so much, Kendall’s heart ached for her.

She was so small that even the tiniest size clothes looked baggy on her.

Kendall pressed a gentle kiss to her daughter’s cheek and said softly, Shelly, I’m your real mom. I’m taking you home with me today, and I promise I’ll never leave you behind again.

Shelly’s heart finally felt safe for the first time, but all she could do was sob. The tears just wouldn’t stop.

From now on, she’d have a mom of her own, and a real home to go back to.

Kendall hugged her daughter tight, her tears slipping down without a sound.

Her daughter’s fragile heart made Kendall treat her with even more tenderness, not wanting to break her in any way.

From now on, it was just the two of them against the world. With her daughter by her side, Kendall finally found the strength to keep moving forward.

Meanwhile, at the police station, all the statements had been taken.

The man who tried to take Shelly was caught. He claimed he just wanted to pass her off as his own kid, even going so far as to fake a DNA test.

He said he only did it because Shelly seemed like such a good kid.

Turns out, the guy didn’t have any kids at home. He did it all on his own. No one else was involved, and nobody put him up to it.

Beatrice’s name was totally cleared.

After Kendall explained everything that had happened back then, Serena, worried that Kendall might be in danger, called Nova to help coordinate things and also check into Nolan’s car accident.

After everything was finally cleared up, they were able to take Shelly home at last.

Meanwhile, Beatrice was on edge, waiting anxiously. When the afternoon came, and no police showed up, she finally let out

a breath of relief.
