Brad paused, and then it hit him that he hadn’t gone himself. He’d sent one of his guys.
He said, “I didn’t go personally. My guy went. I’ll make sure to warn him to keep his mouth shut.
“Jasper, relax. We’ve teamed up plenty of times, and the cops have never had anything on us. This time won’t be any different.”
Jasper let out a breath of relief, but he knew he’d just thrown his money away. Nothing got accomplished.
Stella had only gotten a couple of scratches, nothing serious.
He said, “Brad, I really hope nothing goes wrong this time. We never got caught before because you always handled things yourself.
“But now that you’ve handed it off to a head–hunting company, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope they don’t connect it back to us.”
He hung up in a rage and slammed his phone onto the couch.
The phone landed on the couch, unharmed.
He used to be the big boss everyone looked up to, but now he had nothing, and it was all thanks to that woman, Stella.
Jasper slumped on the couch, his face twisted with rage and a deadly look.
Zoe stayed hidden in the room, recording Jasper’s conversation. Once she had what she needed, she quietly went to bed.

Dylan stayed by Serena’s side at the hospital all night.
When Serena woke up and saw Dylan still there, she was a bit surprised, but she wasn’t moved at all.
Maybe she’d been disappointed too many times. She had no feelings left for this man.
These days, she rarely even thought about him.
She was getting busier and busier with work.
“Stella, you’re awake. I’ll go grab some breakfast. The doctor said you need to eat before they get your IV going again,” Dylan said.
When Dylan saw her awake, he was all smiles. Before Serena could say a word, he got up and went out for breakfast.
Serena watched Dylan’s back as he left and helplessly shook her head. Her love was the cost of her growing

She was no longer the energetic Serena who loved fiercely and hated just as hard.
Now, she carried real responsibilities.
Her grandpa was getting up there in years, so she needed to be there for him more. And she had to start looking into her own history.
She had a hunch her grandpa knew everything about her past, but just didn’t want to say anything.
Her grandpa cared for her deeply, and now that she was grown, he still refused to tell her anything about her birth parents.
There were only two reasons: first, maybe her real parents had abandoned her.
Second, maybe her true background was dangerous.
Over the years, her grandpa always pushed her to become stronger. He’d often say, “Serena, only money and power can keep you safe. Trust no one but yourself.”
But those years she spent by Dylan’s side had really disappointed her grandpa.
Luckily, there was still time to make things right.
Serena got out of bed to freshen up. Her injury pulled uncomfortably, making her wince for a moment, but she brushed it off and didn’t pay it any mind.
After she finished freshening up, Dylan came back, arms loaded with all kinds of breakfast treats.
They were all her favorites.
Dylan opened up the bags, gave her a gentle smile, and said, “Stella, come over and eat.”
Since she had to get her IV soon, Serena didn’t make a fuss and just walked over to eat.
She picked out one, her absolute favorite.
Seeing Serena go for that one, Dylan helped himself to the rest.
They ate in silence.
Dylan could tell Serena wasn’t in the mood to talk to him, so all he could do was quietly stay by her side.
Once breakfast was done, Dylan cleaned up the wrappers and asked the nurse to come over and IV going.
Serena lay in bed and called Liam, gently reminding him to enjoy his breakfast.
Liam always got excited when he heard her voice, telling her he was eating breakfast with Edwin.

That put Serena at ease. Liam was such a well–behaved kid, so Edwin wouldn’t get worn out taking care of
him.
Still, Edwin went ahead and arranged for four high–end nannies to look after Liam.
Serena thought it was unnecessary, but Edwin just gave her a stern look and said, “You make so much money every year. Why let your son miss out on anything?”
Serena had nothing to say. She could only let Edwin fuss over things, however he liked.
Serena just lay there, unfazed as the IV drip started.
Dylan could tell she was lost in thought, so he asked, “Stella, what’s on your mind?”
