Serena thought, ‘Dylan’s condition isn’t something a good night’s sleep could fix, and he doesn’t need a hospital either. Some meds and a couple of days of acupuncture should clear it up.
‘Leaving him there by himself just doesn’t sit right with me..
‘I also don’t want to go back to the place that I used to share with Dylan. If I bumped into Beatrice, we’d definitely end up arguing.
‘With Christmas just around the corner, I really don’t want to argue with anyone!
After thinking it over, she said, “Let’s go to the villa I used to live in.”
Lyra’s gaze shifted slightly. “Alright! Serena, are you really going to take care of him yourself?”
“Yeah. Miles went home for Christmas, and there’s no one else around to look after him. Beatrice has been acting out a lot lately. If I let her take care of Dylan, I’m honestly worried he might not make it out alive,” Serena replied.
Lyra wanted to say Dylan brought this on himself, but she had to admit he was pretty good for his mom.
The little villa Serena used to call home was just a short distance from Dylan’s place.
Back when she was recovering from injuries, that villa had been her safe haven.
She hadn’t been back since the divorce, but people still came by to clean regularly, so it was always ready for someone to stay.
Liam stared at his dad lying there, unmoving. Even though he insisted Dylan wasn’t really his dad, he couldn’t help but worry about him.
“Mom, is Dad going to die?” Liam’s eyes were filled with tears.
Serena was caught off guard. Seeing her son about to cry, her heart broke for him.
Liam used to call Dylan “Mr. Ashford,” but now he was calling him “Dad.” Serena knew he still thought of Dylan as his dad.
She gently comforted him, “Liam, don’t worry. He’ll be alright. Mom won’t let anything happen to him.”
At the very least, Dylan had to stay alive. So Liam could see him whenever he missed his dad.
Liam snuggled into her arms, but his big eyes were fixed on Dylan.
Liam thought, ‘Other kids always have both their mom and dad around, but I only have mom and Edwin.
‘Not having a dad doesn’t really bother me.
‘After all, Dad is really, really bad‘
Liam kept reassuring himself that not having a dad didn’t really matter.
But sometimes, he couldn’t help but wish the three of them could all be together. Maybe things would be happier that way.
Serena looked down at Liam, seeing the worry in his eyes. She pressed her lips together, not saying a word.
Forty minutes later, they finally arrived at the little villa where Serena used to live.
It was a two–story villa with a small yard, but what she really loved was the layout inside.

kid? Stella thought.
Stella totally forgot Dylan was even there. She flopped onto the couch, resting her forehead on her arms.

She mumbled, “Ugh, those three kids are getting louder and louder. Can’t they just let me get some sleep? Wonder if Martha is gonna try for a fourth kid. I’ll go check in on her later?
She really liked this neighborhood. The neighbors were all super friendly.
Another neighbor, Cynthia, had a son and a daughter.
Her husband was a university professor who worked in research and made 600,000 dollars a year. Cynthia was a really nice person, too. Stella figured her son must be in high school by now.
She also remembered Cynthia had a little girl, who should be in elementary school this year.
Serena buried her face in the couch and grumbled, “Cynthia next door is so warm–hearted. Every time she sees me, she asks where my husband is.
