Serena tucked Dylan’s feet in and then went to the kitchen to boil some water. Even though she didn’t live here anymore, a housekeeper still came by every week to clean up.
The kitchen was spotless. She turned on the faucet and let the water run for a bit before filling up the kettle and putting it on
the stove.
Standing in the cozy kitchen, Serena couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotions.
If she’d known things would end up like this, she never would’ve let herself cling to that fleeting warmth Dylan gave her.
She could’ve helped him in other ways, not as his wife by contract. Maybe then things would’ve turned out differently.
Serena watched the snow pour down outside the window, her heart staying cold no matter how
Serena thought, ‘I really can’t count on luck, especially when it comes to matters of the heart!
A few minutes later, the water was boiling.
Serena carried the hot water over to soak Dylan’s feet.
warm the kitchen was.
She nudged Dylan so he was lying across the bed, then gently placed his freezing feet into the steaming water.
She tossed in some herbal medicine, stuff that was supposed to chase away the cold from his body.
She ended up changing the water three times before Dylan’s feet finally started to feel warm.
After cleaning up the spills, she grabbed her coat and headed out to the supermarket.
Based on her past experience, Serena knew Dylan was bound to get a fever tonight.
Dylan and Beatrice didn’t get along at all, and Serena worried Beatrice might already want him dead. Beatrice was hell–bent on snatching the Ashford family’s fortune.
Dylan was a lone wolf now, pretty pathetic, honestly. He’d finally felt the sting of being abandoned by everyone he once trusted.
But Serena didn’t get any thrill out of revenge.
Serena thought, ‘I guess I’m just too much of a softie.’
Both of them were just tragic figures. It wasn’t about mutual sympathy. She just couldn’t get over that mental hurdle. All she could do was take care of Dylan.
She drove to the supermarket, stocked up on daily necessities, and called Lyra to ask her to stay home with Liam. It’s miserable going out in this cold, so she didn’t want Lyra running back and forth.
The supermarket was really close, just a few minutes from her place.
She bought loads of household items, and also picked out some comfortable clothes and shoes for Dylan.
She didn’t want to go back to the old villa since it was full of memories, both sweet and bitter.
Serena used to think that whenever Dylan was alone, it was their chance to connect.
As long as Dylan was home, she’d do whatever she could to make him feel at ease.

Chapter 392
She wanted him to be comfortable, so he’d feel that as long as she was there, he had a home.
But somehow, no matter what she did, it seemed like she could never really get through to Dylan.
Later on, when Serena got pregnant, Dylan barely showed up at their place anymore.
She rarely went back there herself, often coming here just to hide out and lick her wounds in solitude.
Because Dylan’s place never felt like home to her, not even once.

Dylan never lifted a finger for Serena. However, Serena was the only one who ever cared for him, wholeheartedly.
Serena was so sure that her kindness was like a soft, all–encompassing web, meant to hold them together for the rest of their lives. But Dylan was always in control, and all he ever gave her was heartbreak.
Serena thought, ‘Dylan’s coldness really cuts deep. It hurts more than I ever expected.’
Two hours later, Serena had bought a ton of stuff. She drove her car into the garage and shuttled back and forth several times before she finally got everything inside.
She picked up all
oceries and ingredients, then loaded them into the fridge.

rubbed every inch of the house, upstairs and down, and it took her a full three hours. When she finally finished and the place spotless, a faint smile tugged at her lips.
Sure enough, after working up a sweat, her mood really did improve.
She went to check on Dylan in the bedroom. As soon as she saw his cheeks flushed, she could tell he was running a fever.
Dylan’s health had never really recovered since the car accident.
By the afternoon, he was mumbling incoherently, his voice barely above a whisper. “Stella, don’t go.”
