Dylan withdrew his gaze, his tone frosty. “I cared for you all, wanted to give you the very best this world has to offer.

“But in the end, it was nothing but a scam. You forced me to divorce the woman I loved most. Do you really think I’ll ever forgive you for that?”

When Eliana met his freezing stare, it was as if her heart had been scorched.

Eliana spun around and ran off, Dylan’s icy stare scaring her out of her wits.

Dylan watched her fleeing silhouette, a merciless smile curling at the corners of his mouth.

He thought, ‘In this whole mess, the most hateful one is me. I just couldn’t see through them.

Dylan was lost in thought, gazing in the direction Serena had just left. He didn’t get the chance to wish her a Merry Christmas.

Dylan called out softly, “Stella, Merry Christmas!”

He gave a soft smile, standing dazed in the snowy field.

When Serena got home, Liam came running over. “Mommy, pick me up!”

“Oh! Why is Daddy so silly? He can’t even walk without tripping” Liam said, feeling bad for his dad but also thinking he kind of had it coming.

Serena chuckled and gently tapped his little nose. “He really is a bit silly, isn’t he?”

Thinking of Dylan, Serena felt a wave of sadness. She’d tried so hard to move on from him, but now Dylan just wouldn’t let her go.

She thought, ‘People who are loved never really get how exhausting it is for the one doing all the chasing.

‘Back when I was in love with Dylan, it honestly felt like torture.

Serena took Liam to the living room to play.

She had asked Chris, Lyra, Yolanda, and Caleb to come here for Christmas.

By the time she called, all four of them were already there, helping Edwin and Bennett decorate the Christmas tree.

Nova was on duty this year and couldn’t make it to celebrate with them.

With so many people helping with the decorations, Serena headed to the kitchen to help Nancy with dinner.

The heavy snow had stopped, and the sun came out in the morning.
