Serena paused as she was getting into the car, a smile playing on her lips as she saw the look of pure astonishment in Chris’s eyes. “So, I only look my best today? What about all the other days?”
Chris chuckled, a faint blush creeping up his neck. His gaze lingered on her. “Ms. Hale, you look incredible all the time.”
‘She has legs for days,‘ he thought. ‘No matter what she wears, she’s captivating.‘
Serena shut the door. “Let’s head to the venue.”
Chris thought about the news he’d uncovered about the doctor. He decided to keep it to himself for now. Serena was in high spirits, and he didn’t want to potentially ruin her focus before the competition. He’d tell her afterward.
Besides, it might even be good news.
“Chris, there will be a lot of talented designers at the event today,” Serena said. “Keep an eye out from the audience. Look for anyone with real skill and a good head on their shoulders. We could use some fresh, powerful talent at the company.”
Chris understood perfectly. “Of course, Ms. Hale. I’ll be on the lookout.”
“Good.” Just as she finished speaking, her phone buzzed with a call from Edwin.
Serena smiled with fond exasperation. ‘Is he worried I’m going to bail?‘
She answered, her voice softening. “Grandpa.”
In his presence, she could always be the child she once was.
“Serena, sweetheart, you have to go out there and blow those old–timers away,” Edwin said, his voice cheerful and full of confidence.
He had no doubt she would succeed.
Serena’s smile widened, her expression self–assured. She knew what he meant. To earn the board’s respect, she had to prove her capability.
Now that she was back and had cleaned house, getting rid of Cody Fallon’s cronies, there was a corporate battle on the horizon.
“I understand, Grandpa.”
“I know you’re smart enough to take first place,” he continued. “The title itself might not mean much to you, but in practical terms, it’s crucial. Go get ‘em, kiddo. I’m off to have breakfast by the sea. You give it your all.”
Serena laughed. “Alright, Grandpa, I know. I will. Go enjoy your breakfast.”

Chris chimed in, “Ms. Hale, your grandfather has arrived at Redwave Bay. I’ve already arranged for his security detail, so you don’t need to worry.”
Serena wasn’t worried. She trusted Chris’s thoroughness. He truly was the perfect assistant.
The morning traffic was starting to build, but Serena’s good mood held. As she watched the stream of cars, her thoughts inevitably drifted to her son. Another day had passed. She wondered how he was doing.
As Dylan’s son, he was probably being well cared for at the Ashford mansion.
But the ache in her heart was a constant, gnawing pain. Every second without him was agony.
A wave of frustration washed over her whenever she thought about it.
Shaking it off, she pulled out her laptop and looked up the rules for today’s competition.
The fashion design competition was founded by the luxury giant, Seryn Group, and this year marked its tenth anniversary.
The sponsors and judges were all titans of the fashion world, including the legendary Joseph Hayes.
A win would all but guarantee that the designer would skyrocket to fame.
