Serena shook her head. She decided against seeing Joseph first. If the wrong people saw them together, it would just become more fodder for gossip to tarnish her name.
She didn’t care about herself, but she wouldn’t risk dragging Joseph into it.
He had worked too hard to get where he was.
“No, I’ll head straight to the competition,” she said. “There are three rounds this morning with a one–hour break. It should all be over by noon.”
Chris closed the car door. “Alright,” he said. “I’ll have lunch ready for you. Ms. Hale, you’re unmatched when it comes to fashion design. You’ve got this.”
He grinned, giving her a confident thumbs–up.
Serena returned a dazzling smile that seemed to light up the entire parking garage.
She texted Joseph to let him know she’d arrived and was heading straight to the competition venue.
Joseph: [You got this, kiddo!]
Serena smiled. [Thanks, Joseph.]
As she and Chris were waiting for the elevator, a voice called out her name.
“Stella, what are you doing here?”
It was Eliana.
Serena glanced over and saw Dylan at her side.
Dylan was as captivating as ever, his features sharp and alluring. He wore a crisp white shirt and light gray trousers, moving with a calm, distinctive grace.
Eliana clung to his arm, the picture of a perfect, beautiful couple.
The sight of them filled Serena’s eyes with nothing but hatred.
Loving Dylan had been a complete disaster.
“Why shouldn’t I be here?” Serena shot back coldly.
Eliana must be here for the competition too.
Eliana tensed the moment she saw her. “Stella, you’re here to compete too?”
Serena raised an eyebrow, her bright eyes turning icy. “Eliana, what I’m doing here is none of your business.”

“You’re right, it’s not. I’m just here to compete. I was just worried that you heard I’d be here and came to cause trouble because you’re jealous that Dylan and I are together.” Eliana was setting Serena up.
That way, if she didn’t win first place, she’d have someone to blame.
Meanwhile, Dylan’s gaze was fixed on Serena, a look of awe in his eyes. She had only grown more beautiful since she’d left him. The powerful, all–black ensemble suited her perfectly.
Serena noticed Dylan staring but kept her eyes locked on Eliana. “Some things can’t stay hidden forever, Eliana. For instance, did you really save Dylan? I’m actually happy he’s willing to live in your little fantasy. In fact, I’d prefer it if you two disgusting pieces of work stayed locked together and never showed your faces in front of me again. You make me sick.”
Chris beamed. ‘Yes! That’s how you do it, Ms. Hale. Put them in their place.
Eliana panicked. ‘What does she know?‘
But it didn’t matter. Dylan would never believe a word Serena said.
At her words, Dylan’s lips thinned, and his hands trembled slightly at his sides.
A surge of anger coursed through him, and a frosty smirk touched his lips. “Stella, I know I wronged you, but do you have to be so hostile every time we meet?”
Just like she said, the Ashford family might really go back to how things used to be.
Serena finally deigned to look at him. “Dylan, the list of things you did to wrong me is a long one. Meeting you was the biggest…”
She trailed off, giving a self–deprecating laugh. She didn’t want to rehash the past. All she wanted now was to find out if Liam was her son.
“By the way, Mr. Ashford,” she said, her tone shifting to business. “Didn’t you want to talk to me in person? Well, my car is totaled. After insurance, you still owe me three million dollars. I expect that payment as soon as possible.”
Just then, the elevator arrived.
She and Chris stepped inside, then she looked back at the couple with mock apology. “Sorry, I’d rather not share an elevator with someone who has a… communicable disease. Do me a favor and wait for the next one.”
Eliana’s face flushed with anger and humiliation. “Stella, are you deliberately slandering me just to throw me off my game for the competition?”
