From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 199

"Who the hell told you to clean this floor now?"

Jade dug her nails into her palms, forcing her breathing to slow. She caught a glimpse of the empty bottles on the table inside and lowered her voice, making it sound gravelly and tired.

"The manager said Mr. Spenser had a lot of empty bottles that needed clearing. I'm just doing my job, sir."

Lyndon scanned her one last time. The disguise held.

"Fine. Get in there, clear them out, and get the hell out."

Jade bowed her head.

"Yes, sir."

She walked into the room and began slowly gathering the bottles.

Amara didn't think a common janitor was any threat. Besides, this was Lyndon's territory; she felt safe. She didn't even lower her voice.

"You said Ronald's uncle was back. Where is he now?"

Lyndon said flatly, "He's in the city. But he hasn't made a move. I don't know if he's waiting for the right moment or just enjoying the show. The Faith family treated him like trash years ago; he might not even want to help them."

Even so, the mere mention of Silas Faith being in Kingston was enough to make Amara spiral.

"They're still family. Silas might not love them, but he won't let a murder go unpunished."

She stood up from the sofa, pacing the room like a caged animal.

"And what about Victor Hales? Why hasn't your team found him yet? You sent him to ram Ronald's car! He disappeared with the wreckage, and the Faiths never found a body. Do you think Victor—or Ronald—is still alive?"

Clink—

The sound of a beer bottle rolling across the floor shattered the tension in the room.

Amara and Lyndon froze. Their eyes snapped toward Jade, filled with a sudden, sharp suspicion.

Jade reached down and grabbed the rolling bottle, her grip so tight her knuckles were white. She kept her head down and began to apologize in a frantic, stuttering voice.

"I'm so sorry, sir! I'm so clumsy! I lost my grip! Please, please don't tell my manager!"

Lyndon's eyes dropped to Jade's hand on the bottle. He froze.

Even in the dim light, he could see the skin was too fair, the fingers too slender. Those were not the hands of a woman who spent her life scrubbing floors.

He stepped toward her. Jade's grip on the bottle tightened until her hand shook. She instinctively backed away.

In the next second, her wrist was seized in a crushing grip, and she was hauled off the floor.

Bam!
