He paused, then added, “But they don’t seem to give up. A couple of days ago, they contacted my assistant again. They want to meet with our Havenbrook principal privately–try to win our investment.”
“Then don’t bother talking to them,” Riley said, her tone turning even colder. “Just reject them outright.”
Vincent was surprised by how firm Riley’s decision was, but he could already guess from her voice that the Hull family must have done something stupid and pissed her off.
“Understood, Ms. Harper.” Vincent didn’t ask any questions. He responded respectfully right away, “I’ll notify everyone immediately. We’ll completely terminate all negotiations with Hull Properties.”
He always worked fast and didn’t drag things out–exactly what Riley appreciated about him.
Vincent paused for a moment on the other end of the line, then asked, “By the way, the Ashford Group delegation will be visiting our company in a few days. Will you be in the office then?”
“Yeah,” Riley said flatly, a meaningful glint deep in her eyes. “I’ll be there. But remember–don’t reveal my identity. If I have any thoughts on the matter, I’ll let you know in advance.”
Vincent nodded, “Okay. Understood.”
She hung up. Her mood barely shifted, despite the counterattack she’d just set in motion.
The most satisfying way to hit back at Terrence and Sophia? Cut off their benefit chain at the source.
Just as she put her phone away and was about to leave, a staff member in uniform walked up and handed her a neatly folded piece of paper.
“Ms. Harper…” the staff member smiled, “Someone asked me to give this to you.”
Riley took the note, confused, and unfolded it.
Scrawled across the paper in bold, free–spirited handwriting was a short message: “Come up to the VIP room on the second floor.” Riley felt a flicker of confusion.
Who else would leave me a note–other than Lucas and Terrence?
And the handwriting looks… familiar.
She glanced up toward the second–floor VIP area–the most exclusive private section of the golf course. Normally, no one could just walk in there.
Thinking about Sebastian’s no–show earlier, a bold guess started forming in her mind.
Curious but cautious, Riley headed for the elevator.
On the second floor, she followed the signs to a door at the end of the hallway
She knocked lightly

“Come in.” A deep, magnetic voice came from inside, casual and unhurried.
Riley pushed the door open.
The VIP room was luxurious and tastefully decorated. A massive floor–to–ceiling window offered a sweeping view of the golf course’s green expanse.
Standing in front of that window, with his back to her, was Sebastian–tall, lean, and perfectly calm.
Riley hadn’t expected this at all. The man who’d just used an “urgent meeting” as an excuse to bail was now right here in front of her.
“Why… are you here?” Riley walked over and sat on the couch across from him, her voice laced with surprise. “I thought you had something important and couldn’t make it?”
Sebastian slowly turned around.
His deep gaze landed on Riley.
A faint smile played on his strikingly handsome face.
He raised an eyebrow slightly, a natural arrogance appearing in his expression. “I don’t just show up for anyone who wants to see me. Besides, I don’t like doing business tied up in personal favors.”
He was clearly referring to the meeting Riley had just walked away from with Lucas and the others.
Why he was telling her the truth–even asking her up here was another matter entirely.
Riley looked at him quietly, understanding.
This man really is proud to the core. He does whatever he wants.
“Okay, then. Why did you call me up here? Is there something you want to talk about?” she asked.
Sebastian was ready to speak, but just then, the door was knocked on.
“Come in,” he said flatly.
A server walked in with an elegant tray, carrying a cup of coffee and several delicious–looking desserts.
Among them, a tiramisu topped with fresh berries stood out.
The server carefully placed the tray on the coffee table and left.
Sebastian tapped a long finger lightly on the tiramisu. His gaze shifted back to Riley.
“No,” he finally said. “The cake here is good. And I figured–after you stormed off like that–you probably weren’t in the best mood.”
