From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 186

Lydia jolted awake from her restless dozing again and again, casting defensive glances at the inmates around her. She was terrified of what might happen if she actually fell asleep.

She stared at the filthy, exposed communal toilet across the cell.

Forcing herself to hold it, a cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and violent shivers wracked her body.

*Clang.*

The sharp sound pierced her ears.

She instinctively looked over and saw an officer step inside.

"Mrs. Foster, your husband is here with a lawyer," the officer announced.

Lydia let out a shaky breath. She lowered her numb legs, rubbing them uncomfortably before stumbling forward.

Exiting the holding cell, she intended to make a beeline for the nearest restroom, but she collided straight into Frederick and Sierra walking down the hall.

For a fleeting second, a spark of relief flared in her chest.

"I'm posting bail for my wife," Frederick told the officer.

Hearing that, she stepped forward in disbelief. "Bail?"

"Why aren't you clearing my name?"

"Sierra is the one who did this, not me!"

Sierra stood silently off to the side, a glint of smugness dancing in her eyes.

A heavy hand clamped down on Lydia's thin shoulder.

She whipped her head around as Frederick spoke.

"In three days, this will all be over. You'll be fine."

"What does that mean?"

"I am not taking the fall for a crime I didn't commit!"

"It was her..." Seeing Frederick's stony silence, Lydia turned to the officer. "She's the one who bribed the victim, not me."

The officer glanced at Sierra. She had sleek, straight black hair, heavy makeup, and was wearing a leather jacket and mini skirt—looking completely edgy and provocative. It was a stark contrast to Lydia's wavy hair and conservative business suit. They looked nothing alike.

The officer frowned. "Mrs. Foster, we will conduct a follow-up investigation."
