From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 358

Ever since Jessie Goff found out that her secret was out, her nerves had been on edge. The pregnancy only made her more anxious, every little thing sending her into a spiral of doubt.

Peter Clarkson, meanwhile, spent every day with Rebecca Brain. They met constantly, always talking about work and new opportunities. Rebecca was introducing him to new people, helping him grow his network. It was all for the good of Horizon Collective, or so he said. Peter left early every morning and came home late every night, always carrying the faint scent of someone else’s perfume.

Jessie tried to ignore it, but she just couldn’t take it anymore.

Then, one day, her phone buzzed with a photo from an unknown number. The image showed Peter with his arm around Rebecca, who looked completely drunk. Jessie's hands shook as she stared at the screen, her nails digging painfully into her palm.

That night, Jessie sat alone in the living room with the lights off. Peter’s stomach burned from too much alcohol as he slipped off his shoes in the entryway. He nearly jumped out of his skin when he noticed her sitting there in the dark.

“Jessie?” He frowned and tugged at his tie. “Why are you sitting here without the lights on?” His voice was tinged with impatience.

Jessie let out a quiet laugh. “Where were you tonight? Was your client a man or a woman?”

Peter’s face tightened in annoyance. “Are you interrogating me now? It was just a normal business dinner. Do I have to tell you every detail of my day?”

He didn’t stop there. “Jessie, please, just stay at home and don’t cause problems. I’m not asking you to help with the company, but at least don’t make things harder for Horizon Collective.”

His words hit her like a slap. Jessie was already feeling fragile and now she felt even smaller. But she knew she had no one to rely on except him, so she swallowed her pain and held back her tears.

She stood up and went to the kitchen. “I’ll make you some tea to help you sober up.”

Peter sighed, too tired to care about her feelings. He dropped onto the sofa, eyes half-shut, mind racing with only one thought: he had to take down Clarkson Corporation. Only then would he finally feel free.

As the smell of tea drifted in from the kitchen, Peter mumbled under his breath, lost in his own world. “Eleanor, feed me.”

The sound of ceramic shattering against the tiles snapped him out of his daze. Jessie had dropped the bowl, tea spilling everywhere, broken pieces scattered across the floor. Her eyes filled with tears as she stared at him.

“Peter, is this really how you’re going to treat me?” Her voice trembled. “I’m pregnant, I just made you tea, and you’re still thinking about someone else?”

Peter just stared at the mess and at Jessie’s flushed, tear-streaked face, his brow furrowed in confusion.

Peter nodded and asked the nanny to stay with Jessie. He stood by her bed, watching her sleep for a moment, then spoke quietly to the nanny. “Tell her I’ll come back in the morning when she wakes up.”

He needed to go home and get some rest.

Meanwhile, it was Eleanor’s day for her prenatal check-up. Max cleared his schedule to go with her.

“You know you don’t have to come with me. I can handle it.”

Max shook his head, serious. “It’s your first check-up. I want to be here. And for every one after this, as long as I’m in the country, I’ll be with you. That’s what a husband should do.”

Eleanor let out a soft sigh. “Alright.”

Truthfully, she was a little nervous. She just wanted the baby to be healthy. Things had gone smoothly when she had Olga, but after losing her last pregnancy, she couldn’t help but worry.
