The silence was so thick that you could cut it with a knife as Damon led me to the raised dias where the Royal table is set. The only sound was the clicking of my heels and the heavy thuds of his own shoes.
Every single member of the Autumn pack remained on their knees, their heads bowed in submission:
I felt like I was walking on air. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t the weak “Lockwood girl,” or the pack burden, I was the woman on the arm of the most dangerous man alive.
Damon pulled out a velvet–cushioned chair for me, a gesture so simple yet so powerful in front of this crowd. In front of the people who cast me away. He waited for me to sit down before he took his own seat right beside me.
Wait, did the great, brutal, and ruthless Lycan King have manners? That’s so surprising. For some weird reason that I didn’t know, his hands found mine under the table. This move shocked me, and I couldn’t help but gasp as it came out of my mouth. His thumb was grazing my knuckles in a way that sent sparks shooting through my entire body.
The event started, but no one really cared about the food or the music; the atmosphere was so tense due to the presence of the Lycan King. The MC stood up, his voice trembling as he introduced Damon again, praising his greatness. Damon just leaned back and stared ahead, looking utterly bored behind those dark shades of his.
Then, the moment to discuss the reason the Lycan King was visiting arrived, and I wondered why I hadn’t asked him why he was there in the first place. It was Edward who stood up to talk at first.
“Your Majesty, we welcome you again for gracing us with your great presence here in our pack. We’ve heard that you’ve been going to packs lately, and we heard it’s something about you taking over a pack?” he said, his voice was so small that if humans were here, they wouldn’t hear. But thanks to our werewolf abilities, we heard him clearly.
But that wasn’t my problem; I looked at Damon, and he immediately said that. He wanted to take over our pack? As if he knew what I was thinking, he squeezed my hand under the table as if to reassure me that he would explain everything later.
‘What’s the question you’re trying to ask me, Alpha Edward?” he said in a mocking voice.
‘I…I guess what I’m trying to ask is, are you planning on taking over our pack?” Edward asked in a shaking voice.
“Yes,” Damon replied without skipping a beat, and murmurs broke out. I could smell the fear and see the fear on the faces of everybody in the room, including the Lockwoods.
“W–why?”
“I’ll be honest, your pack seemed a little bit boring when I first set foot into your territory, but as time went on, I grew interested in this place, and I don’t want to leave anymore,” he said, like he was saying the simplest thing in the entire world.
“Your Majesty, we are a proud, independent territory. We have followed the laws, but we are not a colony.” It was Alpha Robert who stood up to say that.
Damon didn’t even move or look at the man. “I didnt come here for a discussion, I am here to inform you. The Autumn Pack is now directly under my rule. I am conquering this territory tonight.”
The room turned cold, and Robert’s face turned a deep shade of red. He let out a huff of indignation before stepping forward.

In a blur of motion so fast that I couldn’t blink, Damon was gone from the seat beside me, and there was a sickening ripping sound.
A gasp exploded in the room, followed by a silence so heavy it felt like the walls were closing in. Damon was standing exactly where Robert stood, the ex–alpha was on the floor, his hand clutching at a throat that was no longer there. Blood pooled onto the white marble floor, staining it a deep, dark crimson.
Damon didn’t have a single drop of blood on his suit; he only had blood coating his long and sharp claws.
He looked around the room with a playful expression. He flicked the blood off his finger like it was nothing but water.
I looked at Edward and saw that he was drenched in sweat; he was crying and whimpering, but he couldn’t say anything out loud. He was probably scared of the brutal Lycan King.
“Does anybody else have an opinion to share?” he asked with a voice dripping with sassy arrogance.
“Come on, I’m all ears, or all claws.”
No one could move. I saw my father’s face turn grey out of fear, or hatred? Summer looked like she was about to vomit. Damon walked back to the table in a predatory grace and sat down, leaning towards me for a brief second. Our eyes mwr and the intensity in his gaze made my breath hitch. He looked at me like I was the only person in the room who mattered.
