The sound seemed to echo in the bistro’s sudden silence. Sarah was staring at Damon, and I could see the green monster of jealousy drawing at her throat. Damon was too handsome, too wealthy, and clearly too into me for her to handle. She leaned forward, her voice high and shrill so that the tables near him could hear.
But guess what? I didn’t give a fuck because soon, she would regret whatever it is she thought she was doing.
“Hey, handsome. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Sarah sneered, her eyes darting back to me with pure hate. “This girl was a total flirt in school. She loved breaking up happy couples. And those years she was missing? I heard she was in the wilderness with rogues, and she even had children with them. You know, opening her legs af any given opportunity to mate with a rogue. Proof that she’s a slut. And she’s used goods.”
I didn’t even blink. I just watched a piece of steak on my plate.
Beside me, I felt Damon’s aura darken, but a small and dangerous smile played on his lips. His eyes were like chips of frozen gold under those sunglasses.
“Is that so?” Damon asked, his voice smooth as silk. “Thats perfect, I’ve always preferred a woman with little fire and history.” It makes her much more interesting than a dull and empty- headed girl who spends her time gossiping.”
I kicked him under the table. What nonsense was he talking about now?
Sarah’s jaw dropped; she looked like she had just swallowed a fly.
I heard whispers from the other tables because they were probably fearing for the life of these idiots, and when I looked at Damon’s face, he looked amused, like he was having crazy fun just having this conversation with them.
“Are
you crazy? You actually want a woman with a reputation like that? She’s a scandal waiting to happen!”
Damon leaned back, completely relaxed, though j knew he was ready to strike them.
“You’re absolutely right. I’m a little crazy, but Eloise is the only doctor who knows how to handle my crazy condition. She’s already healed me in ways you couldn’t imagine.

I almost choked on my water. The way he said healed made it sound so incredibly suggestive. My face heated up as I remembered our night together. He was doing this on purpose!
The group looked at each other, confused. They clearly thought Damon was some rich idiot I had cast a spell on.
“Sir, you don’t understand,” Sarah said, trying to sound helpful while her eyes burned with envy. “Eloise was kicked out of the Lockwood family. She has no name, no money, and no pack. She’s just a gold digger looking for a victim, and it seems she has you clasped far down in your throat. Don’t let her trick you into spending your fortune on her.”
Damon let out a low and dark chuckle.
He reached over and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering on my
skin.
“I have a lot of money. Too much money than I know what to do with. If my only purpose in life is to spend it on her, then I’ll die a happy man.”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop the slight fluttering in my
chest.
Sarah was speechless. Her face turned a patchy and ugly red. She couldn’t understand why a man this stunning and powerful would choose me over someone respectable like her.
She looked at our table–filled with the most expensive dishes in the restaurant—and her jealousy reached a breaking point.
I must admit, I thought Damon was going to handle this violently, but the way he used to make Sarah speechless made me happy. I was pleased, which delighted my legs.
Dexter, seeing his girlfriend failing, stepped forward to take a shot.
“Man, you really don’t know what she is. Her own family abandoned her, don’t you-”
Before he could finish the sentence, the glass of ice water in Damon’s hand was flying.
Splash!
The water hit Dexter square in the face. He sputtered, gasping as the ice cubes slid down his expensive shirt. Damon stood up slowly, his height towering over her table. The sheer power of his Lycan King Aura hit the group like a physical wall.
About time for the violence part to come in.
“Say one more word about her,” Damon said, his voice a low and lethal growl that made the

glasses on the table vibrate. “Come on, try it, I want to show you something quickly.” Damon taunted.
But for some reason, Dexter kept quiet.
“Say one more word about her, and I’ll make sure your family name is erased by sunrise.”
“Do you…Do you know who my father is?” Dexter stammered, wiping water from his eyes. He tried ti act tough, but his knees were visibly shaking.
I put my hand on Damon’s arm, silently telling him to sit down. I didn’t need him to finish the battle off; I would do it myself.
I stood up and looked Sarah and Dexter in the eye.
“I don’t care if your father is the King of the world. Who gave you the right to speak to me? Are we friends? No. Are we family? Thank Goddess. No.”
The group stared at me, stunned. The Eloise they remembered was quiet and polite. She was the girl who would lower her head when they teased her.
They weren’t prepared for this version of me, the version that had gone through fire and had been forged by fire.
“Eloise, what is wrong with your attitude? We are only saying these things because we care about your future!”
“Will you shut up there? Did you say care?” I let out a sharp and mocking laugh. “The moment you saw me, you started barking like a pack of stray dogs. It makes me wonder which owner was stupid enough to let their mutts off the leash.”
Sarah’s face went white, and she pointed a trembling finger at me.
“You! You did? You call us dogs?”
I shrugged, looking perfectly innocent.
“I didn’t call names, Sarah. But if the collar fits, feel free to wear it.”
Damon let out a low and satisfied chuckle from behind me. He was watching me like I was the most entertaining thing he had ever seen.
