I watched the blood drain from Sarah’s face as the whispers around the restaurant grew louder. Maybe she was coming to realise what the people in the restaurant were saying. I didn’t know, and I didn’t care. I had an ace up my sleeve that I’d soon perform, and no one was going to see me do it. I almost laughed at the thought.
She didn’t even seem to hear them; she was too high on her own bitterness. Quite unfortunate.
“Is she really that stupid?” someone at a booth nearby whispered. “She’s talking to the Lycan King like he’s a commoner. Sarah’s mouth opened again, as if to spew another disgusting lie about my time in the mountains, but I was done playing.
My inner wolf was growling with a low growl, demanding blood. She wasn’t always this violent toward anybody, but seeing as she wanted some blood, I was going to give her the satisfaction of having some.
Well, maybe a different type of satisfaction.
With a flick of my wrist, a movement so fast it was almost invisible, I sent a tiny silver acupuncture needle flying from between my fingers.
It struck the side of Sarah’s neck, hitting the exact nerve cluster that controlled her vocal cords.
The exact place I wanted it to strike. And guess what? Sarah’s insult died in her throat.
Her mouth kept moving, but all that came out was a pathetic, airy wheeze.
“Hhhh…hhhh…huhhh.”
She clutched her neck, her eyes bulging with terror. She tried to scream, but the silence in the room was absolute. The patrons in the room gasped; they knew what I had just done. I wasn’t just a doctor, I was a healer who knew precisely how to break the body.
“What happened? Sarah?” I asked, leaning forward and resting my chin on my hand. I looked at her with fake concern. “Look at that, it seems your tongue decided to stop lying. Maybe the goddess decided that you didn’t deserve a voice if you were only going to use it to bark like a stray.”
Dexter slammed his hands on the table, his face turning into a dark and ugly shade of purple.
“Eloise! What did you do to her? You used some mountain witchcraft, didn’t you? Fix her now!”

“Oh Goddess, I’m shaking in my boots right now. I’m so scared.” I mockingly trembled.
I looked
away from Dexter, who was just a fool. I watched as Sarah struggled to breathe through her silent panic.
Damon let out a low, dark rumble of a laugh.
He stood up slowly, his massive frame casting a shadow over the entire group. He reached out and placed a possessive hand on my shoulder, his fingers digging in slightly.
“The silence is much better,” Damon said, his voice like grinding stones. “But I think this place has become far too crowded with idiots. Ready to go, mama?”
“Yes,” I said, standing up. “It’s quite unfortunate that I couldn’t enjoy the beautiful food of the restaurant,” I added.
“Dont worry, I can always bring you back here anytime, or even rent out the whole place to avoid idiots and fools like we encountered today from coming,” Damon said, and I laughed.
As we turned to leave, Dexter’s pride finally snapped. He thought he could still intimidate me because he didn’t realise who the man standing beside me was.
“Dont you walk away from me,” Dexter roared. “You’re nothing but a disgraced she–wolf! You think this guy cares about you? He’s just using you for a quick thrill, before he tosses you back into the mud where the Lockwoods left you.”
I froze.
A cold and lethal chill settled in my
bones.
I turned around, my eyes glowing with a silver light that made Dexter flinch.
SLAP!
The sound of my palm meeting his face echoed like a whip crack through the midnight bistro.
Dexter staggered, his hand flying to his cheek. He looked at me, stunned that the polite Eloise he remembered would ever dare touch him.
“You…you bitch. I’ll kill you.”
He lunged forward, his wrist raised to strike me.
But he didn’t even get close.

Damon’s leg moved in a blur, delivering a brutal kick to the back of Dexter’s knee.

There was a sickening pop, and Dexter crashed to the floor, letting out a muffled howl of pain.
“Watch your fucking hands,” Damon growled, his aura exploding outward. The power of the Lycan King hits the room like a shockwave, making the surrounding tables shake. “If you even breathe near her again, I’ll rip your soul out through your throat.
Dexter was trembling on the ground, his face pale as he looked up and finally recognised the predatory eyes of a King.
He realised far too late that he was insulting a goddess in the presence of her god.
I walked over and knelt beside Dexter, grabbing his hair and yanking his head back.
I leaned in close to his ear to whisper.
“You think a needle in the neck is bad, Dexter?” I asked, my voice dripping with cold malice. “As a healer, j know every nerve ending in your body. I know exactly where to press to make sure you never shift into your wolf again. I know where to hit to make sure your legs never work again. And I definitely know the point to hit to make sure you’re never a man again.”
I saw his pupils dilate with pure and unadulterated terror. He stopped breathing, staring at me like I was the personification of death itself.
“If I ever hear my name come out of your mouth, or your little girlfriend’s, I won’t use my medicine to heal you,” I promised, my grip tightening in his hair. “I’ll use it to make sure you spend the rest of your life wishing you had died in this restaurant.”
I shoved his head back toward the ground, smoothing my dress.
Sarah was still whimpering in the background, unable to speak, and Dexter was a broken heap of wood.
