ELOISE.

His face was so sunken that he looked like he was about to faint right there and then on the restaurant floor.
He was no longer the arrogant guy from my last; he was just a terrified man who realised he had been poking a sleeping dragon.
“Get out of my sight,” I said, my voice filled with disgust.
I used a wet wipe from a passing server, who looked like he was trying to disappear into the wall, and slowly cleaned my fingers like I had touched something disgusting.
Damon stepped up beside me, his hand resting firmly on the small of my back.
Together, we walked out of the bistro, leaving the silent and terrified group behind.
I could feel the eyes of every werewolf in the room on us–some with respect and others with pure fear.
As we reached the parking lot, I noticed that Damon’s mouth was quirked up in a smirk. He looked incredibly proud.
“You know, I was prepared to tear that whole place down to protect you,” Damon said, his voice dropping to that low and sexy rumble. “But you handled that better than I ever could. You really know how to make a man tremble with just a few words.”
I gave him a playful and sideways glance.
“Dont get too comfortable, Damon.” I know plenty of pressure points. I knownome especially that can make a man…well lose his ability to enjoy a woman’s company forever.”
Damon’s eyes darkened, and he leaned in closer, his breath warm against my ear.
“I trust you wouldn’t do that to me, Eloise. After all, you’d only be ruining your own future happiness.”
My face turned bright red immediately.
“What nonsense are you saying? My future has nothing to do with yours!”

Damon just chuckled, a deep sound of satisfaction, but he didn’t push it. He opened the car door for me like a gentleman.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated in my pocket.
I pulled it out and saw Olivia’s name flashing on the screen. My heart did a nervous little skip. Olivia never called unless it was important.
“Olivia? What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice turning serious.
“Eloise, please, you have to come. Something happened to mum, she was on the phone and then she just screamed and collapsed…..sh–shes not waking up.”
My stomach dropped immediately.
Aunt Laura had been recovering so well, but a sudden shock could be fatal for her condition.
“Dont touch her, Olivia! Keep her head tilted. I’ll be right over.”
I looked at Damon, my face drained of color.
“We need to go to Olivia’s house now, it’s an emergency.”
Damon didn’t ask a single question. He shifted into high gear immediately, his luxury car roaring to life as he sped through the night.
He saw the panic in my eyes and reached over, squeezing my hand tightly.
“Dont worry,” he said firmly. “Im here and she’s going to be fine.”
Ten minutes later, his car screeched to a stop in front of Aunt Laura’s house.
I jumped out before the tires even stopped spinning and ran into the house. The front door was open, and I could hear Olivia’s frantic crying from inside.
Aunt Laura was lying on the hardwood floor, her face twisted in a mask of pain even though she was unconscious.
Her pulse was weak and jumping all over the place.
“Aunt Laura!”
I dropped to my knees and immediately opened my medical kit.
My hands were shaking for a split second, but the healer in me took over. I became a machine

I pulled out my silver needles and the other instruments, my movements a blur as I tapped into specific points around her heart and neck to stabilise her blood flow.
Damon stood by the door, his presence steady and calm.
“Eloise…is..she..” Olivia choked out, her eyes red from crying.
“Quiet, Olivia. I need to focus.” I said. “Her heart took a massive shock. I’m trying to set her internal rhythm.”
As the last needle went in, Laura let out a long and shuddering breath.
Her face began to lose the grey, deathly tint. I sat back on my heels, letting out the breath I’ve been holding.
“She’s stable,” I whispered.
I look up at Olivia, my eyes turning sharp.
“What happened? Who was she talking to on the phone?”
Olivia wiped her eyes, her voice full of anger.
“It was my father. I didn’t hear anything, but mum was yelling at him to stay away, and she shouted Don’t you dare and then just collapsed.”
