“Grandfather has been poisoned,” I said coldly and watched all of them look at me like j have grown a thousand heads. I knew they were planning on what to say, but I didn’t give a fuck about what they had to say. Aunt Laura was the one who called me here, and I was here because of her, so her opinion was the only one that mattered.

“Let me handle this,” I said to the doctor, and I dropped my designer bag onto the chair by the door.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Father asked in a calm voice.

“Checking Grandfather out, what does it look like?” I asked as I slipped on a new pair of gloves that I saw with the doctor’s instruments.

“And what gives you the right to do that?” he asked bitterly.

“Well, the last time I checked, we were related by blood, and even if we were not, Aunt Laura here is his daughter asked me to check him out, and that’s what I’m about to do,” I said.

“How did you even come up with the fact that he was poisoned?” Summer asked in anger. “A qualified doctor already told us that there was nothing wrong with him, and you, who have no connection to medicine, suddenly know what you’re doing?” she asked me, and I shrugged.

“Were you not the one crying seconds ago that you wanted grandpa to be okay? And abusing the qualifier doctor?” I asked her.

An expression passed through her face for a second before masking it. “Well, and why would you think I would allow you, who isn’t qualified, to do anything to grandfather? Who do you think you are?” her voice kept rising with each word, but I didn’t care.

I removed the duvet from Grandfather’s body and brought his hand up, and just like I guessed, his palm and finger nails were black. I looked at his legs too; his toenails were black.

“How do you know he was poisoned, my Queen I’ve done a lot of tests, and surely, it would have shown if he was poisoned. Don’t you think he asked.

“What’s your name?” I faced the doctor and asked him.

“My name is Larry, my Queen,” he answered.

“Okay, Larry. Did you check why his lips were black?” I asked.

“Good. Did you study medicine with the human or with in the pack and with the healers?” I asked.

I looked up at everybody in the room. “I’m quite shocked that you all didn’t think of also bringing a healer to this place. Are you human? Do you not know that only the healers can recognise what’s wrong with him? He would have died here if not for my presence.” I said.
