My side was hurting, and my hand felt like it had been through a meat grinder, but I forced myself to stand. I had the waterproof crate gripped in my good hand, the treasurethat was supposed to be impossible to find.

I limped out of that cave, every step a reminder of Summer’s boot on my fingers. The storm was still howling, but the heavy rain felt like it was washing away the weakness in me. I wasn’t just any girl anymore; I was the girl who had tried to be killed but refused to die

Images of how I used all the strength I had in my body to lift Summer and make sure she was safe flashed in my mind, and after all that, she pushed me. Stepped on my fucking hand, breaking my bones.

How was she raised exactly? How did my parents raise her? She must have been filled with hatred while growing up, or maybe this was how she has always been and how she would forever be. I still couldn’t believe it, but my hurting body was living proof of it.

Fuck.

When would I stop fighting?

I was tired of fighting every fucking day. I’ve never had the time to rest since I grew up; I was constantly fighting one battle or another, and maybe my inner mind was starting to get tired of it. Perhaps I wasn’t cut out for suffering anymore.

Maybe if I were protected, I would enjoy it.

When I finally reached the base camp, where the group of guards and the other contestants were huddled, the air went silent, and it felt like I was a ghost walking into my own funeral.

I saw her immediately.

Summer.

She was standing near the fire, looking all fragile and pathetic, probably pretending to be traumatized by the tragic accident. And I was sure she had been crying and telling the guards to find me. Because she was just a manipulator, and she could not deceive me. When her eyes met mine, her face turned a shade of white I’d never seen before, her jaw literally dropped, and her glass of water slipped from her hand, shattering on the ground.

Hell yeah, that was the kind of reaction I needed her to have. She needed to be scared, I mean, she did try to kill me and make it look like an accident. I smirked at her, and the whiteness in her face got worse. She already looked pale, and her face looked like a dead person who had been in their casket for a week, and I was enjoying every second of it.

I want to laugh in her face so bad, but I was hurting, and I needed to get checked.

EEloise?she stammered, her voice shaking like a leaf. “Howhow are you? II thought something happened, II-

Disappointed I’m still breathing, Summer?I spat. I didn’t care who heard me. I walked right up to her, letting the blood from my injured hand drip to the floor. Sorry to burst your fucking bubble bitch, it takes more than a cliff and a designer boots to kill me. I’m a rogue after all, right? So you should know I would be very adamant to stay alive and get creative while doing it.

I turned away from her scared and pale face and slammed the crate down in front of the Elder.

Here is your treasure,I wheezed. My throat is burning like crazy.

Chapter 35 Back From The Dead

The Elder looked up at me like I had a hundred heads, with his wide eyes.

How did you get this? With the storm and rain?he asked.

Well, I guess I was meant to find it, I was meant to go off a cliff, but guess what? I found the most important thing that matters right now.I said, eyeing Summer, and I enjoyed the way she shivered.

Yeah bitch, you better be scared for your fucking life.

This is incredible! We thought nobody would find this, especially in such heavy rain and storms. The other Elders were the ones who came up with the hiding spot, though I thought it was too dangerous. However, they did say a determined woman would find it, and you did. I’m so proud of that. Congratulations, Eloise, you’ve won the final challenge.

I gave a cold, jagged smile, keeping my eyes locked on Summer. Well, I owe that to someone, I guess I should thank her.I could hear murmuring in the crowd of girls huddled in one corner; they were probably wondering what was happening.

Summer, did you have something to do with this?Chloe asked, looking at Summer suspiciously.

What? 1I didn’t push her. She fell, and it was an accident. Why would I push my own sister?Summer shrieked, but the way she looked scared might have made the other girls doubt her, but I didn’t give a fuck.

Before I could say another word, Lex threw her hands around me, sobbing into my soaked chest. Eloiss! Thank the Moon Goddess! We thought we had lost you or that something bad must have happened to you,she cried.
