ELOISE.
The next afternoon, I pulled up to the Lockwood house. The big stone building looks old and cold. The house had always felt like a prison to me, and it has never once felt like home. I sighed, adjusted my jacket, and headed inside.
They must all have been expecting me because the Lockwoods were all in the living room, sitting down, with rigid looks on their faces. I shook my head at how serious they looked. Summer was the only one who had a fake smile on her face.
At least she was smiling.
They didn’t say hello, and I returned the favor; I could feel their hatred in the air. In our world, wolves can smell emotions, and right now, the room smelled like vinegar and old anger. And vinegar represented bitterness in the werewolf community.
I didn’t care; I wasn’t here to be loved. I had stopped expecting them to love me years ago, so I was fine. I was here to finish what I started, at least to make them think so. The bridge between us was already burned to the ground; there was no point in being nice.
I walked to the middle of the room and sat down on a fancy, velvet chair. I didn’t sit straight; I leaned back and stretched my legs out. looked like I was relaxing on a beach, and I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to let them think I was affected by whatever stoic expression they had on their faces. They didn’t know, but the so–called stoic expression only made them look ugly.
Naomi, my mother, turned red immediately. She hated it when I didn’t act like a perfect lady, and it wasn’t like I couldn’t; I was just done with doing things to please everyone.
“Eloise! Look at yourself!” Naomi shouted, her voice was high and sharp. Looking like the witch of the west. “You have no manners. You sit like a common stray. Did we teach you nothing about being a high–ranking wolf?”
I didn’t move. I just looked at her and laughed. “Wait, are you being serious? Are you trying to be my mother? Don’t you think it’s a bit too late for that, Naomi? I’m not that child that you can scold anymore.”
“You disrespectful girl!” Naomi screamed, her nose flaring. She looked like she wanted to slap me. “I wonder what the Lycan King sees in you that makes him even think of talking to you. It’s behaviour like this that will make him see the truth about who you are soon.”
I knew she was rage–baiting me, so I just smirked and refused to give her the satisfaction of what she really wanted.
My father slammed his teacup down; the sound was like a gunshot in the room. “Enough! We didn’t bring you here to argue about things that are not necessary. We have business to talk about.”
“Of course,” I murmured.
“What did you say?”
“I said, of course. Well, what is this about? Is this about your precious daughter? Are you worried about her destroyed reputation and want me to swoop in and save the day?“.
Antoine was sitting nearby; he was the one who ran the family company, so he knew about everything I had to do. He looked flustered and angry. He reached into his bag and pulled out a stack of papers. He threw them on the table in front of me, missing my leg by a fraction.
“This is your new job,” Antoine said with a cold voice. “You did well on the contest, people know you now, and they want to see more of you on their screen. So, the company found a movie for you, you’ll be meeting with the director tomorrow night.”

Chapter 44 Wild Ginseng
I picked up the papers with two fingers. I flipped through them slowly, reading the script. After a moment, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It was so bad that it was so funny.
“You want me to play a broken omega slave?” I asked, looking directly at Antoine. “A character who gets beaten up and locked in a cage, and while I’m doing that, you want me to give my fashion deals to Summer?”
I looked at the name of the director in charge of the production. Jabari Hudson. My body went cold; I knew that name, in fact, every woman in the industry knew that name.
“Wait, you gotta be kidding me. Jabari Hudson?” I tapped the paper. “The man who is famous for ‘training‘ his actresses? As in famous for sleeping with them to get them into the production?”
“The man who uses his power to hurt young wolves?”
Antoire didn’t look me in the eye; he looked at the wall instead. “This is a big project, it has a lot of billions in it. It is a huge opportunity for you. Any wolf would be happy to work with a famous director like Jabari.”
I leaned forward, letting a little bit of anger show in my eyes. “If it’s such an honor, why isn’t Summer the one applying for this production?” I asked and he kept quiet, all of them did. “Except you don’t want your favorite daughter and sister to get hurt or to be inja environment with animal like Jabari, but it’s fine for thenrigue daughter to go, right?”
“Summer is different,” Antoine yelled. He hit the table with his fist. “She is the face of the family, she has a reputation. You are the one with the contract which means you have to donwhag the company says.”
He leaned in closer. “If you don’t want the role, it simple. You can turn over your 30% shares in the company. Sign them over to us today and you can leave. You can be free, but you will have nothing.”
I knew this was what all this talk was about so I wasn’t surprised, in fact I’ve been waiting for them to bring it up.
I looked at Summer, she was sitting on the sofa like a sweet angel. She had been quiet the whole time. Now, she stood up and walked towards me. She had a fake, sad look on her face that made me want to puke and I knew she was about spew some bullshit
from her mouth.
“Oh, Ellie,” Summer said, her voice sounding like sugar but I knew it was otherwise. “Please don’t be mad at Antoine, he’s just thinking about your future. You’ve been away from the pack so long. Maybe this role will help you learn to become a wolf again. It’s a very deep character,”
I looked at her and I could see the spark of mean joy she had in her eyes. She wanted to see me in a cage, she wanted to see me ruined. She thought she had already won.
I stood up slowly, I was taller and bigger than her and I could see her flinch a little bit. I looked at all of them and I knew they were waiting for me to cry or scream, But I wasn’t going to give them that.
“Fine,” I said. My voice was calm and steady. “If you want me to do it so badly, then I will. I’ll meet Jabari Hudson tomorrow night.”
