Damon and I walked out of the Blackclaw club side by side, the cool night air hitting my face, a welcome relief from the tension inside.

“Are you okay though?” Damon asked, his voice sounding normal now and losing the terrifying edge it had when speaking to Edward. Now, he just sounded concerned.

I shook my head and let out a small breathless laugh. “Im fine, I just didn’t expect to see his face tonight, if all nights.”

A dark, cold glint flashed in Damon’s eyes. He looked as though he wanted to go back inside and finish what he had started. That’s if Edward was still inside the club.

“Has he been bothering you like this for a long time?”

I sneered, thinking about Edward’s pathetic attempt to sound like he regretted what he did to me. “Ge doesn’t want me, He wants my shares and the influence I now have. He’s broke, so he’s just hustling.”

Damon narrowed his eyes, his jaw tightening. “But seriously, do you want me to handle him? Permanently?”

I raised an eyebrow at him, a playful smirk tugging at my lips. “Are you always this helpful to your business partners, Your Majesty?”

“Well, yes. To the ones that matter to me,” he said, his voice dropping to a low rumble that sent a shiver down my spine.

My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly looked away, hoping the darkness of the parking lot would hide the way my ears were turning pink.

“I appreciate the help, Your Majesty. However, this minor issue isn’t worth your time. I can handle a little cockroach like Edward; we have bigger fish to fry later.“”

“I’ll keep my eyes on him, though,” he said, and I just shrugged because he sounded like someone I couldn’t convince, so I just left it alone.

I could smell his scent, a mix of expensive cologne that allowed me to identify exactly which one he used. The smell of his cologne got me so caught up that I kissed a step on the curb.

Before I could stumble, Damon’s hand was on my waist, steadying me instantly.

“Careful,” he whispered, his face dangerously close to mine.

The position was too intimate, too real. I could feel the heat of his body through his suit, my hands were on his chest, and I wanted to feel his body, but I couldn’t because of the clothes. He was so ripped and carved like a Greek God. His body was made for si..

I quickly stepped back, wanting to put some space between us. This is precisely the reason I don’t want to be in his proximity, because my brain goes crazy. My breath was already turning heavy, fuck.

I looked up at him, and he had a smirk on his face, as if he knew what he was doing to me. I cleared my throat and locked away quickly.

“Thanks, I can walk on my own.”

“Of course,” he said, the smirk still ok his lips. I wanted to go somewhere to hide, but I didn’t. I walked to the car, and he opened the car door for me. I settled down, wallowing in my embarrassment.

The next evening, I got ready for a meeting that was very different from the one I had the night before.

Antoine had sent me an address for a dinner meeting. He claimed he had set up an interview with Jabari Hudson, the director they told me would be producing my next movie. And I was playing along with it.

Antoine told me that since popularity had skyrocketed after the awards, Jabari wanted me for a lead role in his next big production.

I wasn’t impressed because everybody knew Jabari for his dirty tricks and his history with women. So I hoped this would go smoothly.

When I arrived at the hotel, my heart sank. The place was isolated, tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. The hallways were dim, and I felt weird here. Should I just text Damon? I didn’t want to make him feel like I was constantly needing his help. I wasn’t a damsel in distress.

I felt my wolf growl in warning. My guard went up immediately, but I pushed open the door into the private room anyway.

The smell of stale alcohol and heavy cigar smoke hit me like a wall. I frowned, looking around. The room was empty except for one man sitting at a large table.

“Ah, the future Queen is here!” Jabari Hudson greeted me with a broad, greasy smile. His eyes traveled up and down my body in a way that made my skin crawl.

“Hello, Mr Hudson. It appears that you have your information incorrect. I’m already the Queen.” I said. Keeping my voice polite but cold.

“Oh, of course. My bad.”

Jabari was around sixty, balding, and carried a lot of extra weight that made him look like a bloated toad. He had a reputation for being talented, but the rumors about his treatment of women were more widespread.

He stood up and tried to grab my arm to lead me to a chair.

“Come, come, sit down, Eloise.”

I subtly dodged his hand, glancing at the empty seats. “Antoine said there would be other actors and investigators tonight.”

Jabari chuckled, revealing yellow teeth stained from years of smoking.

“They had some last–minute issues. But it’s better this way, we can chat more…privately.”

He poured a glass of amber liquid and slid toward me.

“I saw you in the contest. You’re very talented and very impressive, dear. You have great potential. I have the perfect role for you, it’ll make you a star.”

I noticed his fingertip brush against the edge of the glass cup, and my guard went higher. Not that I was going to take the drink

anyway.

“I don’t drink, Mr Hudson,” u said firmly. “Why don’t we discuss the script?”

Jabari’s smile faded, his eyes narrowing into slits.
