Still flipping through the medical folder, I didn’t need long to see the problem, and the risks of taking this tumor out might have been.
The tumor was wrapped around a main artery like a vine, and one tiny slip of the knife and Aunt Laura would bleed out in seconds. Fuck.
Suddenly, that feeling came over me again, that feeling of seeing things that I don’t understand how I see them. Like I’m in a trance, I was second–guessing myself so bad, but then, I saw an old woman. I looked around me, and I wasn’t in the hospital room anymore. I was in a beautiful garden, with an older woman staring at me. She was the one who appeared to me two months ago.
Telling me about my birthright and stuff, but I still didn’t understand the things she was saying.
“Hello, Eloise. We meet again,” she said with a smile.
“Tamia,” I said. She told me her name the day we met.
“You remember
my
name,”
“Of course I do, you didn’t give me much choice.”
“Good. The reason you’re here right now is because you’re doubting yourself. And you don’t need to; the Goddess has been using you as a vessel to heal her people. This is something that you can do perfectly. So don’t worry,” she told me, and I sighed.
“It’s just that the procedure for this surgery is complicated because of the tumor, and she’s also my aunt, and I’m so scared of messing this up,” I said.
“Of course, it’s only normal for you to have these feelings, dear. You’re the chosen one, so when a situation like this arises, you don’t have time to doubt yourself. Just get your head in the game and get it done. Do you know how many lives you’ve saved?” she asked me, and I sighed.
Indeed, the last two months have been both hectic and exciting. I found joy in saving people, and it made me feel like I had a purpose. The fact that I was doing it anonymously also made me feel a sense of accomplishment.
“But who is Doctor Ghost himself? I hear that he’s been around for a long time, but he just disappeared.”
“What made you think that Doctor Ghost is a he?” she said with a smile.
“Oh, I didn’t think of that.”
“Of course you didn’t. I told you that I’ll tell you everything about who she is when you’re ready. You’re not ready right now; you need your support system in place.”
“What does support system even mean?” I asked her, and she just smiled.
“How’s Damon?” she asked instead, and I frowned.
“Why are you asking?”
“He’s a very important part of your life. I don’t know how slow you guys can be. However, you two need to figure it out for

yourselves, and it’s not until you do that anything can happen. So, good luck with the surgery. You know the drill; the goddess will help you through it. Stop doubting yourself and go break a leg,” she said.
“What d –” then everywhere turned white.
“Wait, wait, I still have questions,” but it was too late because the smell of antiseptic hit my nose again, and I knew that I was back in the hospital.
Okay, let’s get this in motion.
Most doctors would be scared to touch this; they would see it as a death sentence.
But that’s the fun part, I wasn’t most doctors.
I felt the heavy and greedy stares of my parents and brothers. This was quite unfortunate. How stupid did I look? They thought they could use this situation to blackmail me into signing over my shares? This was the most ridiculous and foolish thing they had ever done.
“Look at her, pretending she can read a scan,” Julian mocked, leaning against the wall with a mean smirk.
“What’s the matter, Eloise?” Antoine asked, his voice dripping with hate. “Did you take a weekend course in surgery while you were busy running away from us? Put the file down before you hurt your stupid brain.”
I ignored them; my entire focus was on Laura. She looked so small in the big hospital bed.
“Eloise,” Laura called, her voice shaky and filled with so much pain. “Dont listen to them, they are lions in sheep’s clothing. My wolf is tired, baby. This surgery, I’ve always heard the same thing: they said there is no chance. Don’t give them what they want; just go, save yourself. I’ve lived a beautiful life, and I have no regrets. I’ll be fine to go and rest now.”
I leaned down and kissed her cold forehead. I squeezed her hand gently, trying to pass some of my strength to her.
“Aunt Laura, don’t think negative thoughts. I’m going to fix this, just try to get some rest, and the pain will be over in a few hours.”
I said firmly and stood up, walking towards the door. I didn’t look at any of my useless family members; I didn’t want to see the smug look on their ugly faces.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Billy roared. He looked like a maniac who was about to go on a rampage. “You’re leaving her to die? You really are a heartless brat.”
“She doesn’t care about anyone but herself!” Julian shouted after me as I stepped into the hallway. “Good luck finding your ghost doctor. By tomorrow, you’ll be begging us for help.”
I kept walking and didn’t stop until I reached the end of the hallway. Then I pulled out my phone, and there was only one person who could give me what I wanted without asking questions.
I dialed the number, and he answered on the first ring.
“Ma, I’ve been calling you. Is everything okay?”
