After what felt like hours of hugging Damon, I finally let go because I was starting to feel too comfortable, which made me feel good and weird.
I stood outside the ICU, leaning against the cold wall, my legs felt like jelly after standing for six hours. I was exhausted, but my heart was full. I was happy because I had saved her. I’ve been so scared about the outcome of this particular surgery because the person I was operating on was dear to me, but guess what? I saved her.
I looked up to see Damon walking towards me with two cups of steaming coffee. He looked so handsome that he made my breath hitch. He stopped right in front of me, his shadow tall and protective.
“You look like you’re about to fall, ma. Do you need me to hold you again? Or maybe you want a hug?” he asked in that deep voice of his that made me feel different types of things.
“Im just a little tired,” I whispered.
He leaned in close, his nose brushing against my hair, and his scent engulfed me. I inhaled his scent and let it marinate, because he always smelled so good, but there was something else that I’ve refused to admit that he smelled like.
“But you did that, ma. You are definitely going to be tired; you were mentally and physically stressed. So you need to rest, and I don’t know what I have to do to get you to leave that place and go home. Just come home and sleep, don’t forget that the hospital is mine now, so your aunt will be taken care of properly.”
“You’ve done a good job, Doctor Ghost,” he added.
“Shut up, someone might hear you.” My heart skipped a beat, and I felt my face go hot.
Damon chuckled, a low sound that vibrated through his chest. “I don’t know. It just feels so right, you, me. Us. There’s a lot of potential here, ma.”
He handed me the coffee, and I took a sip; the warmth felt amazing. “I don’t know. There are a lot of things surrounding this, so we’ll see.” I told him. I’ve never felt this indecisive in my life. I want him so bad, but I also want to keep him at arm’s length.
“Whatever you say,” he said, his eyes looking like je was proud of me. He reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “You did something impossible today. You’re a miracle. Now, let’s get you some rest before you pass out.”
I felt so safe with him. After all the mean things my father and brothers had said, Damon’s words felt like medicine. It felt like he didn’t want anything from me, well, apart from the agreement that we had. It felt like he wanted me.
He showed me that, and it made me feel good.
Finally, he talked me into going home to rest, and I did.
The next day, I visited Aunt Laura, and she was doing so much better. Werewolves heal fast, but because of the type of surgery that she went through, she still needed to be under heavy surveillance, and she also needed peace, which is why I made sure that none of my family members could get access to her.
I walked into her room and saw her eyes open. I ran to her and held her hand.
“Eloise….” she whispered. She looked weak, but she smiled at me. “I remember the last thing I said. You’re the one who saved me

Tears poked at my eyes. “Just rest, Auntie. I’ve got everything under control. No one is ever going to hurt you again. Do you want me to contact your husband and children?” I asked her, and she nodded.
“Yes, please, they would be so elated about the news.” I nodded.
I watched her drift back to sleep. I tucked the blanket around her and walked out of the room, feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. My family hadn’t shown up today, but why do I still call them my family? More like the vultures. Since they couldn’t use Laura or me to get money, they stayed away. They were so pathetic.
But as I walked down the hall, I saw someone I didn’t want to see.
Edward.
He was standing there in a black suit, holding a bouquet. He looked at me with sad dog–puppy eyes that used to make me feel bad, but now just annoyed and disgusted.
He was the man my family wanted me to marry af some point, and at some point, they wanted him for their daughter. He had treated me like I was nothing, but now, I was the Queen. I am going to marry the Lycan King. And I wasn’t on his level anymore.
“What are you doing here, Edward?” I asked in a cold voice.
“I heard about your aunt,” he said, stepping closer. “I wanted to see if you were okay. And I..I wanted to see you.”
I rolled my eyes so hard it hurt. “Aunt Laura is fine. And she doesn’t need to see you, actually, I don’t need to see you either.”
Edward looked hurt. “Eloise…dont be like that. Have you forgotten everything we had? We were supposed to get married. We
loved each other.”
I let out a loud, mean laugh. “Love? You didn’t love me. You loved the idea of what we could have had. But the moment you felt like Summer became the favourite child, you decided to go for her. So go and get her and leave me the fuck alone. I don’t ever want to fucking see you again. Enjoy your life, and don’t ever show up here with any flimsy excuses again. It doesn’t look good on you. So get the fuck out of here.”
“Language, ma.”
