From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 75

I also let out a sigh of relief.

When Steve read the name on the screen, he calmly glanced at Mom and me before standing up and leaving to answer the call.

If my guess was correct, it had to be Isabel and her daughter calling.

I took this chance to whisper, "Mom, don't tell Steve that Brandon's girlfriend is Isabel."

Mom paused before asking, "Why? Steve is family. It's fine if he knows."

I quickly thought of an excuse on the spot. "He's Isabel's fan. You should surprise him by letting him know on the day of the dinner."

Mom covered her smile with a hand and said, "How expected! Steve likes celebrities."

We were still talking when Steve returned after answering his call. He seemed troubled by something and forgot about Brandon's girlfriend.

Even Mom could tell that Steve was distracted.

She asked him out of concern, "Did something happen at the company? If you're busy, you can go first. You don't have to worry about me. I'll leave after I'm done eating."

Steve evenly said, "It's fine. It's not urgent."

He had always been like this. No matter what he truly thought, he would always maintain his perfect demeanor.

I suppose this is what people like Steve consider "decency".

After lunch, Mom was worried that she would distract Steve, so she left.

Before leaving, she reminded us to take our medicine on time and give her a chubby grandchild next year.

I forced myself smile in agreement.

After Mom drove away, Steve pushed me back to the villa.

The packets of medicine were still on the coffee cabinet.

I couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed. My face was hot as I told him, "Don't worry about what my mother said. Thanks for playing along just now."

Steve nodded. He called for Maria and told her to throw the medicine away. It seemed like he didn't want another child with me either.

Watching the medicine Mom specially brought for us being discarded so easily by Steve made me feel uneasy.

Steve glanced at his watch as if he were in a rush to do something. He hurriedly went upstairs.

Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Simone calling.

Why was the woman calling me and not her son?

The moment I answered the call, Simone's accusatory voice rang out from my phone. "Zara Yaxley, how could you be so cruel? You're always clinging to Steve. You won't even let him visit his own daughter!"
