I froze for a second, then looked down, mindlessly spinning one of the trinkets in my hands. “No, it’s nothing.” I said quietly.
Damian clearly picked up on my guarded, distant attitude. He let out a soft sigh. “If you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t press you, Nira. Just know that if you ever need someone to vent to, I’m always here”
His voice was gentle and sincere, his eyes filled with genuine concern.
“Okay. Thank you,” I nodded.

As we kept walking, Damian spoke up again, his earnestness showing. “Nira, you paved my life. I’d willingly lay down my life for yours f you ever needed it. I truly just want to be your friend, and I really hope you won’t keep keeping me at arm’s length.”
Looking at the honesty in his eyes, I couldn’t help but think about how Lyra occasionally reacted to him as if he were a fated mate. Combined with what I had overheard about Kade and Olivia, something shifted inside me. I bit my lip and said softly, “You don’t need to lay down your life for me. I didn’t save you looking for a reward.”
Damian’s smile faltered, a flash of disappointment crossing his face as if expecting another rejection.
“But,” I continued, “I can definitely consider being friends.”
A bright, ecstatic grin broke across Damian’s face. “Really? That’s amazing.” He stumbled over his words a little in his excitement. “I… I promise I’ll be the best friend to you.”
I hadn’t expected to see this side of him at all, and a small laugh escaped me. Seeing me smile, Damian laughed along too.

Olivia’s POV
From a distance, Kade caught sight of Nira and Damian laughing and talking, and his face instantly darkened. A brittle branch snap echoed as he crushed a dry twig to pieces in his hand.
Standing right beside him, I took in every bit of his reaction. Secretly thrilled, a faint, smug smile crept onto my lips. “What are Nira and Damian talking about? They certainly look happy.”

Kade’s brow furrowed even deeper at my words, grinding the remnants of the twig into dust. He shot me a freezing look, his voice harsh. “You’d better drop whatever games you’re playing, Olivia. If you pull something like this again, I won’t let your grandfather’s legacy protect you.”
Stung by his blunt warning, a wave of anger and resentment surged through me, mixed with a deep sense of grievance. “Why?” ! demanded. “I can help you so much more than a wolf–less reject like Nira ever could. I love you way more than she does, so why can’t you ever see me?”
Kade couldn’t have cared less about my tears. He kept his icy gaze locked on me, his eyes entirely devoid of warmth. “I love Nira for who she is, not for what she can do for me. As for you, I made myself perfectly clear three years ago. If you insist on staying obsessed, don’t blame me for getting ugly.”
His words cut deep, leaving me stung and reeling. Clenching my fists, I pushed back desperately. “Kade, do you honestly think Nira cares about you? If she actually loved you, she never would have agreed to call off the engagement back then.”

ade’s expression turned utterly lethal. His eyes flashed into his sharp woil gaze, staring at me with a raw, vicious fury as it he wanted to tear my throat out on the spot
Seeing him pushed to the brink of pure rage absolutely terrified me, and a violent shuchsler ran through my entire body. Fortunately, he wasn’t a total psychopath like Damian. As the heir to the Alpha King, he still possessed a shred of control and restraint. He reined in his killer instinct just as quickly as it had appeared, looking down at me coldly, his voice unshakeable That is between her and me. It has nothing to do with you.”
With that, he turned and stormed off.
Completely snapping at his dismissal, I screamed at his retreating back. “You’ll regret this, Kade!
I swore to myself right then and there that I would make him regret it. I’d make him regret it until he came crawing back, begging me to mate with him.

Nira’s POV
Tessa came back practically glowing, her arms full of small prizes, only for Zane to deliver the news that Kade and Olivia had left due to some sudden emergency. As soon as he told us, Zane’s phone rang, and he rushed off as well.
Tessa slammed her winnings down on the table and scoffed. “What is Kade’s problem? How could he just ditch you and leave with Olivia?”
