Nira’s POV

“Nira?”

Damian’s voice snapped me back to reality. “You have some sauce on your face?

“Oh.” I instinctively reached up to wipe it, but missed the spot completely.

“Right here.” Damian picked up a napkin, leaning forward slightly to gently brush the sauce from the corner of my mouth His movements were incredibly tender, his eyes focused on me as if I were something precious.

As his scent washed over me, my wolf, Lyra, started pacing restlessly again. I froze. The sudden intimacy, combined with Lyra’s intense reaction, left my emotions in a total knot.

“All gone,” Damian said, pulling back with a faint, knowing smile.

Kade’s POV

I was in the middle of reviewing the security reports from the different packs when my phone vibrated. I caught a glimpse of an unfamiliar number out of the corner of my eye, but I swiped the screen open anyway.

The moment the photo loaded, my fingers clamped down on the phone. A wave of pure fury surged through my chest.

Staring at the screen, seeing Damian’s face practically pressed against Nira’s, it felt like someone had delivered a heavy blow right to my gut. The voices giving the reports faded into white noise. The only thing I could see was that image, magnifying in my mind until I wanted nothing more than to hand full control over to Odin and let him rip everything to shreds.

“Alpha? Alpha?” Jett whispered, trying to catch my attention. “Everyone is waiting for your input.”

I snapped to my feet. “Meeting adjourned,” I barked, throwing the words over my shoulder as I stormed out of the conference

room.

Once out in the hallway, I pulled up the photo again, zooming in to study it closely.

Nira didn’t look like she was pulling away from him at all.

The realization turned my stomach, leaving a dull ache in my chest. It had only been half a day. How the hell had they gotten this close so fast?

I dialed Zane immediately. “Where are you?”

“At home. Why, what’s up?” Zane asked, completely oblivious. “Alpha, did something happen?”

“Where is Nira?” I asked, the words grating past my clenched teeth. “And did you give her the message I left before I departed?”

“I did,” Zane replied, his tone instantly shifting to one of sheer panic. “Nira should be with Tessa right now.”

I gripped my phone so hard the casing groaned, fighting down the overwhelming urge to destroy everything around me.

Sensing the heavy silence on my end, Zane caught on that something was seriously wrong. His tone sharpened, turning respectful and alert. “Alpha, has something happened? Should I go over there right now?”

“No,” I said, and hung up.

Zane knew something was off. He immediately dialed Tessa. “Hey, Tessa, are you with Nira right now?”

“Yeah, we’re having dinner,” Tessa said, her brow furrowing. “Do you need her for something?

“No, it’s fine. Take your time,” Zane said, hanging up the phone even more confused than before.

Had he just overthought the whole thing?

As it turned out, his instincts were dead on.

The next day, photos of Damian and Nira leaving the restaurant together made front–page news. The paparazzi had caught them from a damning angle–Damian was leaning in to open a car door for her, their faces so close they were practically nose–to–nose, and Nira had a faint smile on her lips.

The headline blared in bold, red font: [Alpha Kade’s Ex–Fiancée Spotted on Night Out with Damian]. The accompanying article leaned into the scandal heavily: [Sources report that following the end of her engagement to Kade, Nira wasted no time cozying up to his bitter rival, the notorious Lycan werewolf Damian. The two were spotted sharing an intimate dinner before leaving together, exhibiting a level of closeness that suggests their relationship is anything but ordinary.]

The sight of Nira’s smile in that photo cut Kade to the quick.

He slammed the tablet displaying the news onto his desk, the impact causing his coffee cup to rattle and spill brown stains across

the surface.

“Alpha, the weekly meeting is about to start,” his secretary murmured cautiously. Kade merely raised a hand to cut her off.

He dialed Jett immediately. “Get this headline taken down right now. And find out who the hell is behind this.” His voice was ice, “As for these media outlets, shut them down. Find everyone responsible and banish them from the pack–make them rogues for the rest of their lives.”

Meanwhile, Damian had also spotted the headlines and immediately ordered his assistant to scrub them.

The assistant returned a moment later. “Damian, we were a step too late. Someone else already took care of it.”

It didn’t take Damian long to figure out exactly who that was.
