Chapter 236 Drink Some Water
Nira’s POV
“Nira!” Matthew’s frantic voice barked through the intercom. “The patient in bed three is showing early signs of multi–organ failure!”
I grabbed the medicine and bolted out the door.
The moment I reached the ICU, the piercing shriek of the heart monitor hit my ears. The young man looked deathly pale, and the fluid seeping from his wound had turned a dark, sickly green.
“Step aside!” I commanded, rushing in. I snapped on sterile gloves, crushed one of the pills into a saline solution, and administered it through his feeding tube.
The room fell dead silent as everyone stared at the monitor.
Thirty seconds later, his blood oxygen levels began a slow climb.
A minute after that, the purple hue in the patient’s lips started giving way to a healthy flush.
“Incredible!” the military doctor murmured, adjusting his glasses as he looked at me with pure admiration. “This is working faster than any broad–spectrum antibiotic we have.”
I couldn’t afford to relax just yet. “Administer the medicine to all patients immediately, but cut the dosage in half,” I ordered. “And,” I added, pointing to the patient’s injury, “take another sample of the discharge for a fresh toxin analysis.”
“Understood.”
Only after the last patient had been treated did I finally collapse onto a hallway bench. Between Lyra’s unstable condition and the lingering side effects from before, seventy–two hours of nonstop, high–intensity work had left my body utterly exhausted.
I was just about to close my eyes for a moment when Noah called. He could barely contain the excitement in his voice. “Nira, I just read the report! Everyone’s vital signs have stabilized!”
“Noah, this is just to get it under control initially,” I explained, forcing myself to stay alert. “I’ve already uploaded the futi treatment plan to the military network. They’ll need to follow it up with herbal steam therapy later on.”

“You can coordinate all of that,” Noah said. He paused, his tone shifting. “But the security clearance on this case has been bumped to top secret. You understand, right?”
“I understand,” I replied seriously.
By the time I wrapped up everything with the military and made it back to campus, graduation was already over. However, given my unique circumstances, Noah had personally visited the school to explain my absence, so my graduation went through completely unaffected.

Kade’s POV
The moment I heard Nira was back, I drove straight to her apartment building.

Chapter 236 Drink Some Water
When she opened the door, she looked completely trained, as if all the fife bad been sucked out of her. Her skin was a translucent. fragile pale, deep dark circles shadowed her eyes, and her footing seemed unsteady. Her usual beige trench coat hung loosely from her shoulders; she looked like she had lost a significant amount of weight
Seeing her so exhausted sent a sharp pang of heartache straight through me.
“Kade?” Nira muttered blankly. Her eyes wandered for a moment before finally focusing on my face. “What are you-”
Before she could finish her sentence, her knees buckled.
I reacted instantly, catching her by the waist and scooping her up into a bridal carry before she could hit the floor
Nira leaned into my chest, her eyes slowly drifting closed. Looking down, I realized she had fallen asleep right there in my arms. long eyelashes cast faint shadows against her pale cheeks, and her lips were entirely devoid of coter.
My chest tightened painfully. I carefully shifted her weight, making sure she was as comfortable as possible.
Navigating the familiar layout of her apartment, I walked into her bedroom and laid her down on the bed, using the utmost care not to disturb her rest.
“Water…” she murmured, caught between consciousness and sleep.
I hurried to the kitchen to pour a glass. By the time I returned, she had managed to push herself up into a sitting position and was clumsily fumbling with the buttons of her coat. She was so visibly exhausted that she couldn’t even manage a single one.
“Let me help,” I said, setting the glass down. Kneeling on the edge of the mattress, I used my fingers to deftly undo the buttons and slide the heavy coat off her shoulders.
The moment it was off, Nira tilted her head back, ready to collapse right back onto the pillows.
“Drink some water first,” I urged, supporting the back of her neck as I guided the rim of the glass to her lips.
She took a few small sips, her eyes already completely shut. Seeing how out of it she was, I gently lowered her back down.
The second her head hit the pillow, she was dead to the world.
I stood over her, watching her sleep for a long time before I finally reached down to pull the comforter over her shoulders. It had been so long since we last saw each other. I pulled up the armchair beside the bed, my eyes greedily tracing her features as she slept.
