He came straight toward me, then looked down at my hand. You were so focused on the music, you didn’t even notice your hand was bleeding.

I blinked, caught off guard by the softness in his voice. Something tugged at my chest, and I glanced down.

My fingertips had faint red lines across them, the strings having cut in without me realizing. I gave a small smile.

Haven’t played in a while. I’m a little out of practice.

Kade took my wrist, his hand warm and steady. Come with me. Let’s get that treated.”

He didn’t wait for permission, just led me upstairs, completely ignoring Damon still lingering nearby.

As I followed him, I looked down at our hands. Something about it feltunfamiliar. Like safety, in a way I hadn’t felt in years. Even Lyra, usually restless and snarling at everything, had gone unusually still inside me,

Kade pulled me into one of the guest suites on the second floor, a space clearly reserved for highranking guests.

Inside, two other men turned as we entered, both radiating power and curiosity.

Miss Soren, hey,” one of them greeted warmly. I’m Zane Duvall, a friend of Kade’s.

And I’m Briar Knox,” the other added with a friendly nod.

I gave them a polite smile, but Kade had already pulled me over to the other side of the couch.

He extended a hand toward Briar. Salve.

Briar reached into his pocket and handed over a small tin without question.

Kade sat down next to me and gently took my hand again, applying the salve with careful precision.

Zane and Briar both stared like they’d just seen a ghost.

Zane’s eyes darted between us, clearly stunned. His stare felt like he was trying to figure out if this was real.

The salve was cool, soothing. Just from the smell alone, I could tell it was made with rare herbs. Expensive stuff.

But I couldn’t stop staring at his hands.

They were perfect. Long fingers, clean lines, strength wrapped in elegance. Even the way he applied ointment looked like art.

I caught myself thinking something stupid. Why couldn’t my hands look like that?

Then I glanced up at his face. Seriously. It was like God made him just to make the rest of us feel inferior.

Zane cleared his throat. AhemMiss Soren, that was one hell of a performance tonight.

I gave him a look, then glanced at the overturned glass on the table in front of him. So he was one of the ones who got caught in the illusion.

Zane scratched his nose, not even pretending to be embarrassed.

So that thing you said earlier,he asked, was that real? The part about the piece triggering people’s inner darkness?

Briar, still holding his cup, paused and turned to listen too.

I let out a short laugh, the kind that carried a little mischief. That? I made that up to mess with them.”

Zane and Briar exchanged confused looks.

But it did feel real,Briar said slowly. I swear, it felt like I was back on the battlefield.

Kade finally spoke, voice cool. It’s just a song.
