Chapter 257 No Secrets

Nira’s POV

The Ironvale Pack is actually the only satellite pack under our Silvermoon Pack jurisdiction. Once my wolf soul, Lyra, recovered. my adoptive father handed control of Ironvale over to me to show me the ropes and prepare me to eventually take over Silvermoon. Naturally, that meant Ironvale Group fell under my control as well. It was a secret I kept from everyone, including Kade.

I smiled at Kade, who looked utterly shell–shocked, while my fingers toyed with a model of the sixth–generation medical device on my desk. He just stared at me blankly, the document folder in his hand slipping and hitting the floor with a dull thud.

After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice quiet. “I take it you’re feeling pretty confident about the free clinic in three days?” He recovered his composure quickly, a helpless, affectionate smile tugging at the copper of his lips. “Confident enough to sit here and play games with me.”

I let out a soft laugh, naturally buttoning my suit jacket as I stood up. Walking over to Kade with practiced elegance, I reached out and smoothed his tie, though there wasn’t a wrinkle in sight.

“How is this playing games? You’re the one who practically begged to see me, Kade.” I let my fingertips brush lightly against his Adam’s apple. “What, are you disappointed?”

“How are you the shadow boss of Ironvale Group?”

“It’s a long story, and I’m sorry, but I can’t give you all the details just yet…”

Kade nodded understandingly, taking the hint and dropping the subject. After a brief silence, he caught my teasing hand, his thumb gently rubbing the thin callus on the web of my thumb–a mark left by years of handling acupuncture needles. “So for the past three years, during every video call…”

“A simple voice changer.” I pulled my hand back, but just as I turned to walk away, Kade grabbed my wrist and deftly spun me back around.

Caught off guard, I tumbled straight into his arms, my back flushing against his broad, solid chest.

“Kade, what do you think you’re doing?” I looked up at him, keeping my voice steady despite the sudden flutter in my chest. Inside me, Lyra was practically clawing to get out.

Kade looked down, his gaze dropping to my slightly parted lips. “Collecting a debt,” he murmured, his voice thick and rough against my ear.

“What debt-”

Before I could finish, his mouth met mine, swallowing the rest of my words completely.

Kade cupped the back of my head with one hand and locked his other arm around my waist, pulling me into a fierce, deep kiss.

A faint, distinct scent drifted from him–the very fragrance that always drove my wolf soul, Lyra, a little wild. Feeling the softness of his lips and tongue sent me drifting into a haze, a dreamlike sensation a hundred times better than anything I could have imagined. My eyelashes fluttered, and my fingers mindlessly gripped the lapels of his suit jacket.

By the time he finally pulled back, I was completely breathless. He traced his thumb over my swollen lips, his deep voice carrying a dangerous edge. “Is this your answer?”

I looked up at him, my eyes half–closed, a sly smile playing on my face. Under his searching gaze, I looped my arms around his neck, my fingers idly tangling in the hair at the nape of his neck. “Impatiens, aren’t we?” I tilted my head slightly. “If you want me to say yes, we need to set some ground rules first.”

Kade raised an eyebrow, his arm tightening around me. “Let’s hear them.”

“First,” I said, pressing a single finger against his lips, “if you’re with me, your heart and soul belong exclusively to me.”

Kade’s eyes darkened. In a flash, he pinned my wrists against the desk and leaned over me, his hot breath brushing my ear. “And what about you?”

Though pinned by his sudden move, I didn’t panic. Instead, I lifted my chin to meet his gaze. “What kind of guarantee do you want?”

“This,” Kade released my wrists, his fingertips tracing slowly down from my brow, over the bridge of my nose, and stopping at my lips. “From now on, this…” His finger slid further down, tapping the small red mole on my collarbone. “…and this…” Finally, his hand rested over my heart, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “…can only belong to me.”

His fierce declaration made the tips of my ears burn, but I forced myself to stay composed, mocking him with a smirk. “Are you trying to sign a lifetime contract, Kade?”

“No,” he said, suddenly dipping his head to press a hard kiss onto my collarbone, leaving a dark, undeniable mark. “I’m stamping my claim.”

He shifted, his fangs grazing the sensitive skin of my neck. “I can’t wait for the day we mate, Nira. The day I finally mark you for real.”

The sharp edge of his fangs made me gasp from the slight sting, and my fingers sank into his hair.

“And the second rule?” Kade asked.

“Second,” I said, my finger drawing idle circles on his chest as my tone turned serious, “no secrets, no matter what.” I looked at him intently. “Especially if you’re in danger.”

“Third,” I continued, brushing past his protest, “if the day ever comes…” I paused, a sudden wave of realism washing over me. “…where you change your mind and fall out of love, just tell me right away.”

Kade’s gaze turned incredibly fierce, his grip on my waist tightening until it almost hurt. “That day will never come.”

“I’m just saying ‘if.‘ Nothing in this world is absolute.”

“There is no ‘if,” Kade cut me off, his voice dropping into a low, unyielding growl. He grabbed my hand and pressed it flat against his chest, forcing me to feel the powerful, steady thudding beneath his suit fabric. “This heart was branded with a single name three years ago, Nira. And it’s yours.”

Feeling the rapid, powerful thudding beneath my palm, I let out a soft laugh. “You’d better keep that promise.”
