Chapter 264 Hold Steady for Now

Nira’s POV

I knew Janice far too well.

While her wolf soul made her a hightier werewolf in terms of combat power, she had absolutely zero natural talent for medicine. Because of that, I highly doubted her medical skills were anywhere near as legendary as the media claimed.

As for how she had managed to deceive so many people, that remained a mystery.

I’ll have Jett look into that first thing tomorrow,Kade said, turning his attention back to me. What about you? What’s your next move?”

I swirled my glass, the ice cubes clinking sharply against the crystal. Hold steady for now. I’ve already sent a letter to my mentor asking about her junior disciple. I’ll wait until she writes back.

Kade nodded, his intense gaze lingering on my face.

Before I could say anything else, he reached out, his long fingers gently wrapping around my wrist. My breath hitched as he slowly drew my hand toward him. The glass tilted, the dark red liquid sloshing inside and casting fractured glints of light across his deep, striking features.

He stared directly into my eyes, parted his lips, and took a sip of the wine straight from my hand. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed, a stray drop of wine clinging to the corner of his mouth, glistening under the dim lights.

Very sweet,he murmured, his voice richer than the wine itself as his thumb brushed soft circles against the inside of my wrist.

The heat of his touch made my fingers tremble, and I almost lost my grip on the glass. Our eyes locked in the tiny space between us, the air thick with the aroma of red wine and his own clean, distinct scent.

Outside, the rain grew heavier, but it couldn’t drown out the thumping of my heart. In my mind, Lyra grew incredibly restless again, practically begging me to mate with him.

KadeI whispered, but the word was instantly cut off as his lips captured mine.

The kiss was fierce and desperate, fueled by the warmth of the alcohol and a longrepressed hunger. His tongue slipped past my teeth, completely overwhelming me as he claimed my breath. My fingers tightened around the stem of myglass, my knuckles aching from the strain.

Outside the window, raindrops rolled down the glass in jagged lines, mimicking the chaotic rhythm of my pulse. Kade’s hand slid down to the small of my back, pulling me flush against his chest.

When his kiss suddenly deepened, the wine glass finally slipped from my fingers. It hit the expensive rug with a soft thud, the dark red liquid instantly bleeding into the fabric.

The glassI muttered, pressing my hands against Kade’s chest to try and create some space.

Ignore it,he breathed against my lips, pressing me back against the table. Through the blurred sheets of rain outside the window, the ambient light of the room fractured into distorted patterns.

I tilted my head back, letting his lips and tongue trail down to the side of my neck. He found the tiny mole therethe exact spot he always loved to bite. Sure enough, his teeth gently nipped at the sensitive skin, sending a violent shiver straight down my spine.

My hands, which had been trying to push him awayjust moreents ago, reflexively göpped his shirt instead. Kade’s breath grew scorching hot against my skin. His kisses moved downward from the mole, so intense igit as though he wanted to consume me entirely.

My face burned, and my vision blurred. The last shred of my sanity warned me that this was dangerousthat I was on the verge of exposing Lyra’s existence. Yet my body completely surrendered to his touch.

Suddenly, a sharp shiver ran through me, and Kade froze.
