Chapter 268 So Incredibly Gentle

Nira’s POV

Tessa sneaked a peek over my shoulder at the screen and let out a dramatic, mocking click of her tongue. “The Alpha even controls what you wear? Talk about possessive.”

I just smiled and shook my head, leaving it at that.

At exactly seven in the evening, Kade’s black Maybach pulled up right on time. Dressed in a tailored black suit, he looked exceptionally tall and sharp.

As I walked toward him in the dress he had picked out, his throat bobbed. He stared at me, his eyes burning with intense heat.

“Beautiful,” he murmured, reaching out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind my ear. His fingertips brushed against my earlobe, sending a faint shiver through me.

Standing nearby, Tessa watched the whole thing, her jaw dropping so far she nearly dropped her purse.

Kade shot a sharp look her way, and she instantly squared her shoulders. “I–I didn’t see anything!”

I shook my head with a small laugh. Satisfied, Kade looked away and held the car door open for me.

Once we were settled inside, he finally glanced out at Tessa, who

I just smiled softly, offering no reply.

When the car pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot, Kade got out first and walked around to open my door. He shielded the top of the frame with one hand to keep me from bumping my head, while his other hand slid naturally around my waist–the familiar gesture so seamless it felt as though he had done it a thousand times before.

Following close beside me, Tessa noticed how Kade’s hand never left my waist, nudging me with a playful, teasing smirk.

When we pushed the door open, Zane was holding a wine glass and chatting with Briar.

He looked up, and the moment he saw Kade walking in with his arm around me, his glass slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor, splashing red wine everywhere.

“Holy shit!” he exclaimed, rubbing his eyes dramatically. “Am I drunk, or am I hallucinating? Briar, pinch me!”

Zane’s wolf ears perked up in excitement as he dashed over to us, circling around us like a whirlwind. “Alpha, not bad! You locked down your mate already?”

Kade shot him a freezing glare. “Shut up.”

Far from intimidated, Zane only grew more enthusiastic. He leaned in toward fee, raising his eyebrows playfully. “Nira, what kind of spell did you cast on the Alpha? Growing up, he wouldn’t even hold a girl’s hand…”

“Zane,” Kade warned, his voice dropping into dangerous territory.

Zane shut his mouth instantly.

Briar raised his glass in a toast, a knowing smile in his eyes. “After all these years, the day has finally come.”

In a rare move, Kade didn’t argue. Instead, he pulled out a chair for me and carefully arranged my napkin. The seamless, natural way he did it made Zane’s jaw drop to the floor.

“Alpha, come on,” Zane whined. “We grew up together, and I’m your top lieutenant. You’ve never been this attentive to me.”

Kade’s temple twitched at that. Feigning irritation, his eyes flashed with his wolf’s intensity as he leveled a warning stare at him. “Zane, do you need me to remind everyone about the time you were thirteen and got stuck in a tree because you couldn’t control your inner wolf?”

Zane’s face turned bright red as he jumped in protest. “Alpha! You can’t just say that kind of stuff in front of Nira!”

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Taking advantage of the distraction, Kade began cutting the steak on my plate into neat, bite- sized pieces so it would be easier for me to eat; his movements so natural it felt like something he had done a thousand times.

Briar pushed up his glasses again, casually twisting the knife. “I also seem to recall someone at age five-”

“Briar!” Zane yelled, rushing over to cover his mouth. “You guys are totally ganging up on me!”

Kade calmly poured me a glass of water, a slight curve to his lips. “Just eat.”

Biting back a smile, I secretly slipped my hand into Kade’s under the table. His large palm immediately closed around mine, wrapping it completely as his thumb gently brushed against the back of my hand.

Zane’s sharp eyes caught our little exchange, and he let out a dramatic groan. “Oh, come on! I can’t even eat like this! Watching you two act all lovey–dovey is making me lose my appetite!”

Kade gave him a cold look. “Then you’re free to leave.”

“No, no, wait!” Zane waved his hands quickly. “I’m just happy for you guys!” His expression suddenly turned serious. “Alpha, honestly, it’s about time you finally woke up to this. I really thought you’d never settle down unless you found your fated mate.”

Fated mate.

My back went rigid. Lyra still hadn’t figured out whether Kade or Damian was actually my fated mate.

If Kade ever crossed paths with his true fated mate, what would happen to what we have?
