Nira’s POV

Before I could even answer, Kade turned and tossed his car keys to Zane. “Give me the keys to your sports car. You take mine Zane caught the keys and opened his mouth to protest, but Briar grabbed him by the collar and dragged him away.

His tragic cry echoed faintly in the night wind. “Alpha, you’re choosing your girl over your friends-”

Tessa wisely quickened her pace to keep up with Briar and Zane, pausing just long enough to give me a knowing wink. “Have fun, Nira!”

Once the others were out of sight, Kade took my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine. “Let’s go.”

Kade opened the passenger door for me. As he leaned in to fasten my seatbelt, his lips brushed so close to my cheek I could feel their warmth. “Hold on tight.”

The sports car sped through the night, eventually pulling up at the summit of a hill just outside the city. From up here, we could look down at the entire sprawling grid of brilliant city lights.

Kade pulled a blanket from the trunk, spread it across the hood, and carefully helped me sit down.

“Cold?” He slipped his suit jacket off, draping it over my shoulders before pulling me into his arms.

Resting against his solid chest, the memory of earlier tonight crossed my mind, and I let out a soft laugh. “So, Zane wasn’t actually treating us tonight?”

Kade confessed without missing a beat. “No. It was my treat.”

I saw right through him, but I found it incredibly endearing that Kade of all people would do something like this.

Kade leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to my lips. “I just wanted to make it clear to everyone,” he admitted freely. “You’re mine,
