Seeing Janice switch instantly to warm and friendly behavior right after I’d slapped her felt completely wrong–it went against her character. I knew she was definitely plotting something.

Since that was the case, I decided to play along and see exactly what kind of trick she was trying to pull.

When Lyra murmured that she caught the scent of a few servants lurking deep in the garden, I wasn’t surprised at all.

“Alright,” I said smoothly, following Janice further along the garden path.

As we passed a particularly dense bush, Janice suddenly “tripped,” stumbling toward me with exaggerated clumsiness.

Her hand “accidentally” brushed across my back—but I knew exactly what she was doing. She was trying to smear a specialized pheromone onto my clothes, assuming I wouldn’t detect it since my wolf spirit was dormant.

“Janice, watch your step,” I said, acting completely oblivious as I steadied her. I let her think she had the upper hand, playing right into her little

game.

We’d only just reached the patch when a low, menacing buzzing sound emerged from the distance. Then, like a dark cloud, a swarm of venomous bees came barreling straight toward

us!

“Ah! Bees!” Janice screamed in feigned panic. She pretended to pull me to safety, but she was actually shoving me directly toward the swarm.

Right then, I stumbled on purpose and “accidentally” grabbed ahold of Janice’s shawl.

As it slipped off her shoulders, it revealed the same distinct pheromone mark on the back of her neck.

I’d secretly swapped our jackets earlier.

“Nira, you-” Janice’s expression shifted instantly, but before she could get the words out, the swarm had already locked onto the new scent and changed direction, heading straight for her.

“Help! Help me!” Janice tried to shift into her wolf form, but didn’t have enough time. She could only cover her head, scream, and run, tripping over her own skirt in the process.

The bees descended on her exposed skin mercilessly. Within moments, her face was swollen with dozens of large, angry welts.

I put on a “worried” face and called out from a safe distance, “Someone, come quick! Janice is being attacked by bees!”

Servants rushed over in a panic, but none dared get near the frenzied swarm.

It wasn’t until Janice was stung into unconsciousness that the bees finally began to disperse.

Damon arrived moments later, having heard the commotion. When he saw Janice’s disfigured face, he exploded. “What the hell are venomous bees doing in my garden?”

The butler approached him nervously and handed over a clear glass bottle. “We found this on Ms. Janice Soren. It’s a specialized pheromone used to attract bees…”

Damon’s face turned grim. He glanced over at me, and I immediately put on a “still shaken” look.

The suspicion in his eyes quickly shifted to concern. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine…” I shook my head weakly. “But Janice…” I pulled a small pendant from my sleeve. “Luckily, I had this bee–repelling charm on me.”

Damon didn’t say another word. He ordered someone to carry Janice away immediately.

Watching them leave, I let out a cold, quiet laugh.

Once the family doctor administered an anti–allergy shot, Janice’s once–pretty face was so swollen it was completely unrecognizable, puffed up like a swollen dough ball.

The doctor frowned at Damon and said, “Ms. Janice Soren was stung quite badly. The marks on her face will likely leave permanent scars.”

Damon’s expression darkened immediately.

He signaled for everyone else to leave the room, leaving only the unconscious Janice behind.

“Drop the act,” Damon said, his wolf–like eyes fixing on her coldly. “I know you’re awake.”

Janice’s swollen eyelids twitched. With effort, she managed to pry them open slightly.

“Dad… her voice was hoarse and strained. She tried to reach for Damon’s sleeve, but her hands were covered in stings, and the pain made her gasp.

“You’ve disappointed me.” Damon glared down at her, no trace of pity in his eyes. “I warned you not to mess with Nira. Did you think I was joking?”

“No… I didn’t…” Janice tried to explain, her voice trembling.

“Quiet!” Damon cut her off sharply. “The butler already got to the bottom of this. The servants confessed. You ordered them to release those bees in the garden!”

Janice trembled, cold sweat beading on her swollen forehead.

“This is my final warning.” Damon leaned in, his voice low and dangerous. “Right now, Nira is crucial to us. If you pull another stunt like this…”

He glanced at her bandaged face. “Next time, it won’t just be your face that’s ruined.”

With that, Damon turned and walked out, leaving Janice twitching in pain on the bed.

In the hallway, Damon ran into Aven, who was carrying a cup of medicine.

“Dad, Janice, she—”

“Hmph.” Damon glared at him. “You’ve always favored Janice, and I let it slide. But Nira matters to us now, so you better focus on keeping her content. If I catch either of you pulling another stupid stunt like this, consider yourselves out of the Soren family for good.”

Aven’s face went pale. The medicine cup nearly slipped from his hand.
