“Nira, please… spare Janice and Aven!” Jenna’s voice was shaking, tears streaking down her worn–out face. She begged desperately, “It’s all my fault… if you need to blame

anyone, blame

me…”

I stared coldly at this woman who had once treated me with nothing but indifference, feeling completely hollow inside. “What are you doing, Mom?”

“I know…” She clutched at the hem of my dress, her fearful eyes locked on mine. “Janice’s face… those unexplained injuries she’s been getting lately… it’s all because of you…”

I gently brushed her hand aside and took a seat at the table. “I can make it stop.”

I picked up a glass of water, took a sip, and glanced at her sideways before speaking coolly, “Just tell me who my real parents are.”

Jenna shuddered from head to toe. One of her wolf ears twitched upright, stiff with terror.

Her lips trembled uncontrollably, but no words came out–only a strained, wheezing sound escaped her throat.

I narrowed my eyes, aware it was the mutant werewolf’s curse taking hold. “I know you can’t say it out loud. But you can show me another way.”

She shook her head frantically, then suddenly grabbed her throat in pain, her face flushing a deep red.

A moment later, struggling for breath, she pulled a faded photograph from her pocket and handed it to me with trembling hands.

The photo showed a young couple holding an infant, but both of their heads had been deliberately cut out of the frame.

“Uhh… uhhh…” Jenna made guttural, choking noises from deep in her throat. She gestured wildly, but couldn’t form a single clear word.

My heart sank. I quickly grabbed her wrist to check her pulse.

It was erratic–clearly, the curse was flaring up.

clutched her head in agony, rolled her eyes back, foamed at the mouth, and collapsed unconscious.

I immediately pulled out my acupuncture needles from the med kit, but just as I was about to begin treatment, the door burst open.

Damon barged in with the family physician right behind him.

“What’s going on here?” Damon’s wolf eyes glowed fiercely as he barked the question at me.

“Mom suddenly passed out,” I replied calmly, putting the needles away. “Probably a shock

reaction.”

The family physician hurried over to examine her. After a moment, he shook his head. “She has suffered a stroke. She needs to get to a hospital immediately.”

Damon shot me a suspicious glance. “What were the two of you talking about?”

“Mom came by to chat,” I said without changing my expression. “She collapsed right in the middle of it.”

After everyone rushed to carry Jenna out, I picked up the photograph and held it tight in my hand.

I gently traced the outlines of the couple whose heads were missing. They must have been my real parents.

In the photo, they stood tall and strong–likely not low–ranking wolves.

My fingertip paused near the edge of the baby’s blanket. There, on the arm of the woman holding the infant, a small butterfly–shaped birthmark was clearly visible.

The discovery sent a thrill through me. Maybe I could track down who this couple really was through that birthmark!

I quickly snapped a picture of the photo and sent it to Kade, asking if he could use some specialized tech to enhance the birthmark’s clarity.

Kade replied almost instantly, “Leave it to me. Stay safe over there with the Sorens. Listen to Noah and don’t take any unnecessary risks.”

I tucked the photo close against my chest, emotions still churning inside.

Just then, Damon sent the butler to call me downstairs.

“I’ve thought it over. I accept your terms,” Damon stated flatly. “I’ll transfer fifty percent of the company shares to you. In return, you bring the Ironvale Group’s medical project into a partnership with us, and Janice is to be included in every stage of the process.”

A slight curl touched my lips as I tapped my fingers lightly on the table. “Fine. But I want to review the share transfer agreement first.”

A shrewd gleam flashed in Damon’s eyes. He promptly called for the lawyer, who brought in the already–prepared documents.

We both signed and sealed the papers shortly after, maintaining a surface–level appearance of harmony.

Janice’s POV:

Back in my room, I was staring at the scars on my face in the mirror when a servant hurried in to tell me Dad had signed the agreement with Nira.

“That witch actually agreed just like that?” I grabbed Aven’s hand in disbelief. “Aven, what if this is some kind of trap?”

“Dad isn’t easy to fool either. She signed on the dotted line–what else can she pull now?” Aven

sured me, patting my hand. “Don’t overthink it. Just focus on recovering.”

Mom heard I’d been hurt, she rushed back from the hospital to see me.
