Chapter 305 Rescue and Reunion
Nira’s POV:
A blast of bluepurple flame swallowed the two struggling figures whole. Janice let out a shrie that didn’t sound human, and the woman began slapping frantically at the fire eating throug her clothes.
The heat wave knocked over the operating table, and the entire wall of medical cabinets cam crashing down.
I used every last ounce of strength to stagger out of the operating room–then my legs gave out and I hit the floor hard.
My vision swam; my ears rang. All I could hear was the wild drumming of my own heart.
I tried to push myself up, trembling, but when I lifted my head, the blood in my veins turned to ice.
Through the roaring flames, a charred figure was dragging itself toward me.
Half the woman’s face was melted raw, glistening with blood. One leg was clearly broken, yet she kept crawling, maddened, in my direction. “Your face… give me your face…”
I scrambled backward until my back hit the cold wall.
Her hand closed around my ankle, sharp nails digging deep into my skin.
“This time… you’re not getting away…” Her burned lips stretched into a grin as she raised a bloodstained scalpel.
Just as she brought it down-
“Thud!”
A huge white wolf shot forward like lightning, lashing out with a brutal kick that sent the woman flying. She smashed into the wall with the sickening crunch of breaking bones.
In an instant, the wolf shifted back–into a tall, handsome man.
“Nira!” Kade gathered me into his arms. He was soaked in blood, his face scraped and bruised, but when his eyes met mine, they flushed red. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t here sooner…”
I clutched the front of his shirt, struggling to point toward the dying woman. “Don’t… don’t let

her die… She knows where my parents are…”
Kade understood immediately. In a flash, he carried me over to where the woman lay.
She was sprawled in a pool of her own blood, laughing hysterically. “Go ahead… kill me, then…”
“Where is my mother?” I screamed, grabbing her collar.
Suddenly her eyes went wide. A wet, gurgling laugh bubbled from her throat. “You’ll never… never see her again…” She coughed, spraying black blood. “I killed her! I killed her!”
Before the last word had faded, the whole building began to shake violently. Chunks of ceiling rained down. Kade swept me up and bolted for the exit.
“BOOM.”
With a deafening roar, the corridor behind us collapsed completely.
Shielding me with his body, Kade burst out of the building just as the entire lab caved in behind us. Towering flames lit up the night sky over the ocean.
I went limp in Kade’s arms, staring at the fire shooting upward, emotions churning inside me.
Kade held me tight, his arms trembling slightly from the terror he’d just lived through. He lowered his head, and hot tears fell onto my sootstreaked, bloodied face.
“You idiot…” His voice was raw, barely recognizable. His long fingers traced gently over every cut and bruise on my skin. “Who said you could gamble with your life like that?”
I looked up through blurry tears at his smokeblackened face.
With a shaking hand, I reached up and touched the wound on his brow, still seeping blood. The warmth under my fingertips finally convinced me this wasn’t a dream.
“Kade…” I managed a weak smile and pressed my ear to his heaving chest. “It really is you… Kade’s arms tightened suddenly, almost crushing me against him. He buried his face in the curve of my neck, his heated breath falling across my battered skin. “I thought… I thought I’d lost you again…”
Kade’s POV:
The moment the words left my mouth. Nira passed out in my arms.

After coming so close to losing her, I completely panicked. I scooped her up and sprinted fo the boat like a madman.
“Medic! Is there a medic on board?!”
I charged onto the deck with Nira in my arms, frantically scanning for anyone in a medical uniform.
