Chapter 306 The Truth About Her Parents
Nira’s POV:
When I first woke up, the only thing on my mind was checking if Lyra was still with me.
Luckily, this time she answered my call right away.
Whatever that woman had sprayed in my face only blocked our connection temporarily—it wasn’t permanent.
“You’re finally awake?” Kade’s voice pulled me back to the moment.
He was watching me with so much tenderness in his eyes, his fingers brushing gently against my cheek.
I blinked up at him. “Kade…”
Emotions raced through his gaze before settling into a soft sigh. He leaned down until his forehead touched mine. “You scared the life out of me…”
I could feel his hands trembling faintly, and my heart softened. “I’m sorry…”
Instead of replying, Kade straightened up. “I’ll get the doctor.”
Watching his tired posture and the wrinkled shirt he wore–something so unlike him–made my chest ache.
He was the Alpha King’s heir, always put together and polished in my memories. I’d never seen him look so disheveled.
He really did care that much.
It didn’t take long before a few military medics came in and ran a full check–up.
My eyes drifted past the busy medical team and landed on Kade.
He was standing by the window, sunlight streaming in and catching the sharp lines of his profile. Those deep–set eyes–usually bright and lively–were lowered now, his thick lashes casting shadows underneath.
“Ms. Soren is recovering well,” the lead medic said, putting away his stethoscope. “Just a little weak. She needs plenty of rest.”

Only then did Kade glance up and give the medics a nod. “Thank you for your help.”
Once they cleared out, the room fell quiet. I noticed Kade hadn’t moved from the window, a my heart sank a little.
“Kade…” I called softly.
He finally walked over and sat beside the bed, but stayed quiet.
“Are you mad at me?” I reached out carefully to hook my finger around his.
His hand twitched but didn’t pull away. He looked at me, his expression serious. “You promised me you wouldn’t take risks.”
I bit my lip, guilt washing over me. “Noah sent word that their leader had escaped, and that crazy woman was the only lead we had on my real parents. I didn’t have time to think it through-”
“So you put yourself in danger again?” Kade’s eyes reddened as he spoke. “Did you even stop to think how worried I’d be? When I saw you covered in blood, I…” His voice broke.
My nose stung. I tried to push myself up to sit, but the motion tugged at my wounds and I hissed in pain.
Kade immediately reached out to steady me. “Don’t move.”
I took the chance to lean into him, pressing my face against his chest. “I know I was wrong. Please don’t stay upset with me.”
For a moment his body went rigid, but then he sighed, surrendering, and wrapped his arms carefully around me. “When have I ever really been able to stay mad at you?”
Sea air drifted through the open window, salty and mild. I rested against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart, and finally felt completely at peace.
Tilting my head back, I said softly, “Ever since I was little, my foster father kept me close and pushed me hard. Every day was just training, studying, learning–nonstop. Later, when I went back to the Soren family, everyone always favored Janice. I never got to just be a kid–carefree, spoiled, loved unconditionally.
“I just… wanted to have family out there who truly loved me.” My voice dropped to a whisper, my fingers curling into Kade’s collar. “Someone who’d choose me first, no matter what.”
When I finished, I felt Kade’s body tense slightly. Then he looked down, and his eyes held more tenderness than I’d ever seen.

Holding his gaze, I clung to him a little tighter.
He wrapped his arms firmly around me and rested his chin lightly on top of my head. “Ond you’re better, I’ll go with you to find them.”
Urgency sharpened my tone. “Kade, I need you to look up two people–Killian and Natalie.”
Without hesitation, Kade pulled out his phone and called Jett. “Run a search on these two names. Fast.”
