Chapter 308 A Vow and a Journey
Alexander’s tone was flat, more a statement than a question. “You heard all of that.”
He was sure of it. With Kade’s level of wolf spirit, there was no chance he’d missed a single word.
Kade’s fists were clenched, knuckles bone–white. “Three years ago… she almost…”
Almost died for you,” Alexander cut in, his voice cold. “That girl’s been stubborn since she was a kid. Once she makes up her mind, nothing can change it.”
A gust of sea wind swept through the porthole, stirring the hair across Kade’s forehead. His voice came out rough. “I swear, as long as I’m alive, I’ll never let her put herself in danger for
me again.”
Alexander’s sharp gaze locked onto him. “Kade, I don’t care if you’re the future Alpha King or
some big shot. To me, you’re just the kid Nira almost got herself killed over.”
Kade straightened up, meeting Alexander’s eyes without hesitation. “I understand.”
“That girl has been through too much since she was young,” Alexander’s voice softened unexpectedly. “She sees you as the most important person in her life–that’s why she keeps risking everything for you.”
“I know.” Kade’s voice trembled slightly. “From now on, my life is hers.”
Alexander’s silver wolf eyes suddenly gleamed with intensity as he stared Kade down. “Remember what you said today. If you ever betray her…”
A cold flicker passed through his gaze. “I have a hundred ways to make your life miserable.”
As Alpha of the powerful and reclusive Silvermoon Pack, he had every right to say that with utter confidence. For centuries, no Alpha King had dared to cross his family.
Though the person facing Kade seemed to be just a woman, he didn’t dare underestimate her. Something about Nira’s master radiated an unusually formidable presence.
hstead of barking down under Alexander’s scrutiny, Kade took a step forward. “If that day ever comes, you won’t have to lift a finger. I’ll end it myself.”
The two held each other’s gaze for a long moment. Finally, Alexander’s wolf eyes relaxed, ar bu gave a slow, approving nod.
“Master…” Kade spoke up again. “Will Nira’s body really hold up on a long trip?”
Alexander let out a sigh. “That girl’s mind is completely set on finding her birth parents. Trying to stop her would only hurt her more.”
He paused, then added reassuringly, “Don’t worry. I’ll stay with you both until she’s fully recovered, and I’ll do everything in my power to keep her safe.”
Kade bowed deeply. “Thank you, Master.”
Noah personally arranged a boat and assigned an elite squad to escort them the entire way. Before they left, he clapped Kade on the shoulder. “After everything Nira’s done for us,
this is
the least we could do.”
Nira’s POV:
On the way to Meridia, Alexander gave me acupuncture treatments every day, and my body recovered noticeably.
“Master, don’t you want to take a break?” On the fifth day of treatment, I watched the fine beads of sweat on his forehead with concern.
He shook his head, never pausing his movements. “Stay still. Don’t distract me.”
Kade quietly handed him a towel from the side.
On the sixth day of the voyage, I suddenly felt a lightness wash over me–that long–lost sense of strength was finally back. I flexed my wrists in surprise. “Master, I think I’m completely healed!”
But Alexander didn’t answer. The needle in his hand slipped and clattered to the floor. His face went pale, and he slumped forward.
“Master” Kade and I cried out at the same time.
Kade caught him just in time, and I immediately grabbed his wrist to check his pulse. My heart sank. “He’s dramed his energy! Master used up almost all of his strength just to treat me!”
What no one else knew was that the Alexander family had lived in seclusion within the Silverrnoon Pack for generations. While their power far exceeded that of an ordinary Alpha.
